Didn't really find another topic to put this in.  $101 million facility paid for with CCPD funds was supposed to be a cash cow by providing other cities with a training facility.  Nearly 3 years in and the fire department has brought in $35,000 in rentals and the police department has brought in nothing because they only recently created a fee schedule.  On top of that, both departments have been allowing other cities to use the facility free of charge.

Yea, sounds like several people should be fired. The Star-T piece reads as if there has been very little bookkeeping since it opened. They can't even answer who all has used the facility, when, how many people, etc.

I wonder how many other instances we can find of CCPD funds seemingly being spent just because they were available with such little oversight on outcomes.

It's been awhile, but I've heard stories of the police department buying vehicles just because the CCPD funds were available and storing them for years because there wasn't any general fund money available to outfit them for police work and maintain them.

The Council should ask the CCPD board to take a hard look at this.

as a reminder to folks in the forum, the CCPD is up for a 10 year renewal.

begun in 1995, the CCPD has normally been up for renewal every 5 years. This time our "wise" city council has opted to seek a 10yr reauthorization.

Early voting began today, June 29 and continues through July 10 with election day on July 14.

The voters can have their say come election day.

I was being sarcastic. The council dismissed the CCPD board a few years ago and appointed themselves to those positions.

The city council did this late 2009, immediately after the CCPD was reauthorized for the 2010-2015 time period.

basically the voters reapproved the CCPD under one set of rules and the council went in to immediately change it knowing 5yrs would pass before another vote and any opposition would die down due to the passage of time
