In the thread with the old skyline photos, somebody posted a shot from Burnett Park in the '60s that had this interesting oddly-saturated look. I took some pics from Burnett Park the other day, and I've manipulated them to resemble the look of that old photo. The first one is the most like the old pic, the rest are just for fun. Enjoy!

Fantastic pics Kevin. Each a poster. Sky looks like the sky on the Simpsons! I like that.
More detail on the Electric Building than I thought existed. (Your're not playing photoshop tricks on us are you?)

Thanks!
No trickery - all that I did was play with the exposure, brightness, and saturation to try to mimic that old '60s pic from the other thread. I noticed that the details on the Electric Building popped out once I was finished - they're there, alright, but the upper floor details are just a little dirty from time (as are the details on a lot of our cool old buildings). They stand out nicely in these pics.
I've always thought the Electric Building was one of the prettiest buildings in downtown, but I think it tends to get overlooked. Those upper floor details need a good powerwash.
Edit: This is the pic I was thinking of. My versions came out a bit more exaggerated, but I think they look cool that way.

Here is a more "treeless" view from 1929
Looks like the Annex is still under construction. NOTE that the fire escape has not yet been installed!

Nice series of your new neighborhood. I always enjoy your good sense of composition. Personally, I like pictures of architecture slightly oversaturated. Keep 'em coming.

John, the annex was under construction in your 1929 photo. It and the Hollywood Theater followed the building by about one year.

Yes, I believe I read somewhere that the Hollywood Theatre opened its doors for its first showing in April 1930.
