FWW article was taken down as quickly as it was put up but they still have a secondary link to the twitter content.  Without taking sides, from what I gather, this appears to be centered around a disagreement about business policies and preferential treatment.  I wouldn't be suprised if there isn't some swift legal action happening behind the scenes knowing that privacy is something that some people pay a lot of money to protect.

Maybe someone with a legal background can chime in....Can a business owner use someone's name with the intent to defame the person over a disagreement about a business policy and not expect to be faced with some sort of defamation lawsuit?  Is there any expectation of privacy between a paying customer and a business operator in this case?  What if they rang up a $1000 bill, paid but left no tip.  Would the bar manager be in the wrong for taking a picture of that their bar tab showing a $0 tip and sharing their name on twitter?

No, there is absolutely no chance of a defamation lawsuit happening, much less succeeding, in this case. On another note, the idea that you can pay for privacy in this country kind of adds to the idea that this group of people are out of touch. .

I suspect that the area outlined in red is too deep into a residential zone and commercial development is probably out of the question. I predict that AHHA would strongly oppose anything but housing.

Lot 2050 and the lot directly behind it are the old Dairy Queen lots so I don't think putting something commercial on those would be an issue. Buildings on lots 3620 and 3612 are not there anymore either I don't think, and they were commercial too.. The lots next to 3627 were old apartments, so that would be the one place I think commercial would struggle to gain traction.

Until something is done about the University exit off I-30 going west bound, these changes are moot in my opinion.  That exit is probably the worst exit off an interstate that has ever been devised.

I think there will be a lot of pent up demand released as quarantines are lifted.  It won't be enough to make up for business being lost now, but it may be enough to get local economies moving again.  One of the driving factors will be whether there is a clean break:  If they can field a cheap/easy/plentiful test for the virus so that people can be easily tested, and/or an effective treatment, and/or a vaccine, and people are highly confident,* it will be a strong recovery.  If none of those things happen and people slowly re-emerge from isolation and there are some recurrences of the virus, the recovery will be weaker.

The countries that have managed the virus the best are the ones that have instituted widespread testing.  Simply knowing who's contagious before they show any symptoms is a huge win for public health.

*In my situation, we had set the money aside and were about the pull the trigger on new windows for our house.  Just as the money came in, Covid-19 reared its head.  We decided to hang onto the liquid cash until we get past the pandemic.  As soon as I feel confident enough, though, I will be getting those windows.  For people who've managed to keep their income stream going through this, I think they will be spending a lot of money on homes, home improvements, cars, furniture, etc., when the all-clear is sounded.  For some period of time, the rate of spending will probably spike which will get the wheels turning again.

This situation above is at least 6 months away.  What people are severely misunderstanding is that the reason the death toll is under what it was projected to be is because everything is closed.  I hate to be that person, but the longer this goes on, the more it will change people's habits.  Think about the great depression and recession and their psychological impacts on people post recovery.  I think we all had grandparents who hoarded tin and metal, saved every penny, and never wasted anything.  This will change going out behaviors I am afraid for the long term, meaning recovery barring some sort of technological breakthrough in two months, will be long.  Case in point, no way I am taking my family with 3 small children out dinning in if they reopen without treatments.

The brown reminds me of the Home2 Suites they are building close by.  I agree with Doohickie, that brown is a travesty.

Like San Antonio and Houston our city is spread way beyond our local ISD boundaries.  The difference is that I don't hear about the San Antonio or Houston ISDs as being a detriment to those cities attracting business.

Houston ISD is on the list to be taken over by the TEA due to poor performance.  DFW ISDs are doing head and shoulders better than that school district.

They have now torn down an apartment complex that wraps behind the DQ on Montgomery off Byers and it looks like they are about to tear down another right next to it.  Hopefully something is being planned and they are just not tearing down for the sake.

With all of these events coming, surely some eateries and other things would be coming to Montgomery soon?

Wait, there's an exit for University Drive on SB Chisholm Trail Parkway?!

I wish I had known that when I took the exit for University Drive on WB I-30 a few months ago.

(I knew it would be a tight turn, but I didn't realize you're supposed to practically come to a complete stop in the middle of a fast moving freeway before taking the exit.)

Someone (TXDOT?) ought to shut down the dangerous exit for University on WB I-30, and make people take the exit for University on SB Chisholm Trail Parkway instead.

Yes.  It's very clearly marked as the last free exit. And yes, the exit from WB I-30 isn't the best, but I can't recall ever seeing or hearing of an accident there.

About two years ago I was about to exit Montgomery to go home and noticed a tragic accident had just occurred at that University exit turn.  The driver had overshot the exit and plowed straight into the light poll(that has happened multiple times actually as you can see all the marks on that base).  Those light polls off that exit have a cement base that is about 3 feet high and easily 6 feet in circumference.  I, and a few others, immediately pulled over to help.  The car was a 4 door sedan and the driver and passenger luckily were seat belted in.  The passenger was knocked out cold from the air bag impact. Upon first arrival, we thought she had passed.  The driver had lost all his front teeth in the impact.  The people in the back seat weren't buckled in.  One was ejected thru the windshield and had a compound fracture in his leg and a huge gash on his head from the windshield.  The other occupant in the back fared the best, as she had broken ankle and that was about it.  That exit is one of the most accident prone ones out there as people continually don't make that turn in time and slide into something.

I am very curious to know the answer to this question, does anyone think this arena will bring some new eateries along Montgomery?  Taco Heads seems to be doing pretty well and Montgomery Street Cafe is fantastic, but only open with limited hours.

Don't mind this being my first post, but Dickies Arena will host DI NCAA Men's Tourney games in 2022. That's a big get for an arena that would normally focus on rodeo.
