#150152 The Comings and Goings of FW Restaurants

Posted by youngalum on 08 January 2024 - 03:52 PM

I tried going to Eazy Monkey yesterday for the first time and I believe they are no longer open.  It was 6:30 and the doors were locked and the lights were out.  Don't know if it's the location but I don't think the name helped much with drawing in business.

Went there a few weeks ago--the food was horrible but the server was very nice.

A few days later went to Teddy Wongs and server came up to us and said you got me twice in one week.

I mentioned to him later that evening about EM and he said they haven't been paid for several weeks and the owner owes a lot of $ to others. He claimed they said they would come back, but he doubted it.

I agree with you on the name.  However, the S-T is reporting that Boozie's will be moving to the old Star-Telegram Printing Building in Edgecliff Village.

The paper is also reporting that another Halbach-Dietz design, the Houston Street Bar & Patio will be closing soon.

It didn't help they kept pushing back the opening of the place after changing names. The name was horrible.

The food was hit/miss. Wife and I loved the old version of the restaurant when it was by ridgmar mall. The version in Wild Acre/Boozies was heavy handed on the spice levels in every dish. I mean for example on the Ruben sandwich, the thousand island dressing was blazing spicey hot to the point of being difficult to eat. A lot of their other food was the same, way too spicy.

Finally, it will fail spectacularly at the new location off I-20. One it is hard to get to and secondly it is in a bad neighborhood. It will not last a year.

TCU flew American Airlines charters to both games out of DFW.

American Airlines has been the carrier for TCU away games for decades.

Was the cheeseburger small by design compared to larger options or are their portions generally small? Kincaids Original 1/2 lb is almost too much food but I still finish it.

Edit: I just looked at Jons Menu online and $17 for an 817 Classic basic single patty burger and fries plus drink? I bet two people could easily ring up a $50 tab here with tip and tax. Whats the parking situation that close to TCU?

Parking is a huge mess in that area

#142283 New development proposed on Camp Bowie at Gingerman location?

Auberge Resorts Collection will manage the Bowie House. That puts Fort Worth in some pretty exclusive company.

I'm shocked that FW is getting a brand of this caliber. That is very big time to say the least.

TCU does not mess around once a decision is made. It is the exact opposite of most groups in FW on developmental projects.

You are not missing anything.  Since this is a historic tax credit project, no major changes to the facade are allowed to receive the tax credits.  This means the building will always look like the rendering.

Historically ugly should be the words used here

I'm not sure I can be friends with anyone that eats "pizza" or "mac-n-cheese" flavored ice cream.

I used to live in SF and there was a place called Mitchell's ice cream and they were known for their wacky flavors.  I tried several and not all of them were my favorites however I was never disappointed in. They had flavors like (Avocado, Yam, Cheese, Garlic, Jackfruit).  Like the saying goes... Don't knock it until you try it.

If one ever watches any competition food shows can tell you, it you cannot think of anything else to do with the item, make it into ice cream--the almost get out of jail card to play

Maybe it would be fun for a place like that to have a menu of all foods from other cities:

The Cincinnati (chili)

No real Texan eats spaghetti sauce and calls it chili

The more I see of the project, the less I like it.  I commonly use W7th when riding but I feel the improvements will actually make the bike lanes more hazardous.

  • Cars come out of cross streets and driveways will stop just short of the motor traffic lane (which means they will roll right across the bike lane which has been moved further from the motor traffic)
  • The curbs on either side of the bike lane constrain cyclists to just that path, removing "escape routes" around anything that blocks it or moves across it (like pedestrians)
  • The path being lower than surrounding curbs will encourage the accumulation of debris like gravel and glass, making the lane more hazardous

I got a solution to your problem--don't ride on busy city streets with traffic congestion

#139102 Dave & Buster's acquiring Main Event

I think Sundance Square is looking for business owners who already have a product to sell, not people submitting suggestions. That said, maybe they'll realize people want entertainment options if people mis-use it to submit suggestions. I will not be submitting an entry.

Do any of y'all have business experience and the ability to purchase arcade machines? I'm hoping there will be a business owner who applies to run an entertainment business.

It appears Sundance Square has a few specific types of businesses in mind. Among the options applicants can choose from:

-Art supply shop
-Book store
-Pet supply shop
-Wine and cheese shop

There are also more common options, and "other."

Everyone of those categories is a failure in a downtown setting. If this is what Ms. Sasha wants, no wonder there is disfunction in Sundance Square and will be for the foreseeable future with her in charge.

#139101 New Audi Dealership to Open Near Downtown

Posted by youngalum on 14 April 2022 - 12:48 PM

Group 1 bought dealership from Ballargeon (sp).

Group 1 supposedly prefers interstate locations.  The dealership itself says they needed a larger property, and tells customers that is their reason for moving.

IMO seem to be moving farther from their obvious core customer base (city people) and out into suburbia where you really dont see as many Audis currently.  Perhaps that will change as the location shifts.  After the Audi dealership opened on University there was a visible increase in the # of Audis you could see around central FW vs the years prior, so dealership/repair location likely matters.

it is 2-5 miles to a Mercedes, Lexus and Infinity dealerships from the new Audi location
