Do any old timers remember this place. My mother used to talk about it. I assume it was a restaurant(on a hill) on the north side of town. Any info appreciated.

I remember Hester's. When we first move to Ft. Worth my parents rented a temporary place on the north side just a few blocks away from that restaurant. I recall my parents eating dinner there on there anniversary - I never dined there personally but was always intrigued by the retro-look of the 40-50's style steakhouse.
It was located on 28th just up the hill from Jacksboro highway. At the time there was a Buddies grocery and Myers dept store at the bottom of the hill - at the same intersection there was also a Clover Drive Inn and Caravan Motel. I believe the infamous Caravan is still there.

Hello,
Yes, Hesters on the Hill was a steak, chicken, sometimes catfish place in 28th Street, about a mile east of Jacksboro Hwy. Right next door was a NW Hospital....I grew up b1954 three blocks away and used to play int the about 50 acres woods right behind the resturant...they used to smoke some things and smoke would come out of the chimneys....remember it well.
Was a club of sorts in the early 70's ... a friend of mine at the time met his wife there...they are still married, I think...

In the 1920's immigrants Sarah and Hyman Applebaum started the Big Apple Rest. on 28th and Cliff Street,Lucille Hester worked for them, the Big Apple closed in the late '50's. Ms. Hester opend Hester's on the Hill then circa 1958. Source North of the River, A Brief History of North Fort Worth, J'Nell Pate TCU Press 1994
I remember the closed Big Apple growing up....a liquor store is there now, might be closed, don't remember.

Thanks for the info.
I remember the Big Apple as a kid in the 50's. We moved to Richland Hills later on from the North side. My dad and I would still drive from Richland Hills ever now and then to get barbecue from there.
