Wow, I didn't know that the city club had crossfit. My husband interned at their fitness center during college and enjoyed it. The workouts are effective...they are especially helpful for me in training for triathlons because you don't have to wear out your joints with as much cardio as you would normally train with.

There's nothing irrational about a dislike for suburban areas. In fact, it is a indication of sanity!

I haven't tried CrossFit, but I Googled it after reading your post and really liked what I saw. I prefer programs that mix in a lot of body weight exercises, whole-body exercises, and functional fitness. Not that you can tell by looking at my little stick body.
One of the businesses I dream about opening if I win the lottery a few times is a gym. I've probably given a lot more thought to it than is due considering my odds of winning the lottery a few times.
It will take a ton of money because one of my dream locations for it - don't laugh - is the T&P Warehouse. Bottom floor or three dedicated to retail: healthy lifestyle/fitness type retail. Maybe some space for offices. Several big floor plates with lots of room to work yourself on out. Maybe green up the top of the building for some grass drills but then roll out the tables for evening entertaining.
I'm sure the location is entirely impractical, but it's still a dream.
Anyway, if money is no object, that's where I suggest you put your gym. That place could be very cool.

I know of one place near the 7th St. and DTFW corridor. They may need some extra fitness camps or classes to fill in those OFFSEASON gaps. The place is ultra low budg but it is a great location that offers plenty of street parking. I say just throw em $2500/month and do your thing.
What rent price range are you talking about here Sarah?

My impression of the Magnolia area is that there is a strong and developing sense of community that is supportive of community-local businesses. If you execute well (on the fitness programs but also on the overall customer experience) and have a sincere passion for that community, it's strikes me as the type of environment in which you can build strong ties and emotional bonds that will not only make your business successful but also make it more enjoyable and fulfilling to operate. How much more would you have to make with a gym out in Aledo to get that same level of satisfaction? With the right approach, you can survive the presence of a GSX a few miles down the road.

I see www.brandtfitness.com still works.
Also looking at Inursha on west 7th, noquitters on Bailey, and worst case scenario, I would haul my butt all the way back to the 24 hour fitness in the burbs. Not interested in Larry North downtown, but looking for recommendations for a decent club.

So I joined a gym while I was in Odessa and droppped about 130 lbs over the last 2 years. Job change brings me back to Fort Worth and I am looking for a new gym in the downtown vicinity. I remember getting stuff from City Club, but their website seems to be down. Do they still exist?
