Having perused all the previous posts here, I noted the decision not to implode. Anyone know, or have a guess, as to why a quick implosion was passed over for this months' process of demolition?
I think I remember seeing something a long time ago that they wanted to salvage bricks for a plaza, but I could be wrong.

December 5, 2012:
December 6, 2012: This was the last day the eastern part of the building was standing.
December 7, 2012:
I didn't get a chance to take any pictures over the weekend, but I returned on Monday. I actually thought that this would be my last photograph of any major part of the building still standing. This was taken on December 10, 2012:
The westernmost portion of the tower was a stair that ran from the basement to the roof. As I reported earlier, the city closed Main Street for fear of the 13 story west wall of the building collapsing on cars below. I might have been able to get to my usual north side vantage point, but that was where they were turning traffic around on Main. This photo was taken on Magnolia Ave., one block to the north. It looks as if this will be my last photo of any part of the tower standing. It was taken on December 11, 2012.

The concept drawings are great, but I don't like the plan to close off main street for several blocks... bad idea for the area.

I agree with RD. That was the second thing I noticed. We are creating too many superblocks in this city.

Yea, surely that wouldn't happen. It's main street. Maybe just lazy drawing?
I also wish they turn over the part lining Magnolia to developers, Magnolia deserves to be lined with business not parking lots.

Whether it's happening or not, I wish it wasn't spread out to 3 wide wings. Instead, I'd rather it just be one tall building.
I'm not saying that as a skyscraper/high rise enthusiast. I'm saying it more as someone who doesn't want to see a building that's NOT a stadium or arena take up THAT much space. Especially in that part of town.

As one who don't mind one or two superblocks in a city our size . I am pretty ticked off if Main Street dead ends ! Lord I hope Austin55 is right. Maybe the artist did not get all information ? But what if this is true ? Surely they would have to have a public meeting before going forward right ?

I like the unusual building design, but not the Main Street closure.
Anyone else noticed the odd location of the proposed transit center? Magnolia doesn't cross the railroad tracks or the freeway to the east, and Main St to the south would be closed. How are busses supposed to arrive from the east or south?

Perhaps they're thinking long term... but yeah, it would seem to make more sense to have a transit center on Rosedale or something.

I think it's just laziness. Main St. does a small curve starting near Morphy St. That isn't in the renderings.
The facility does look nice.

I hope so . Someone going to JPS in am emergency probably will not be at their best driving at that moment. One thing that comes to mind . Their is a street between the old Beth El Synagogue and Broadway Baptist Church. It looks like one parking lot for Broadway . But their is a public street with street signs threw it. St Lewis Ave.

ST reporting on JPS's bond package, which had been facing opposition in the past. $809 million. Sounds like a few years away. Article here.
JPS outlines some of the plans on its website,
-10 story, 739,011 sqft, $609 million patient tower, to be located East of Main.
-Additional parking containing 2,300 spaces
-New Central utility plant
-5 story, 220,000 sqft, $102 million Psychiatric hospital
-$94 million is renovations to existing facilities.
BTW, not sure if this is the proper thread or what.

It's also interesting to note that the addition that is on the south side of the main tower portion of the hospital was designed to have more floors added on top of it. That addition is only currently two stories.

I work as a Healthcare IT consultant and see how healthcare works up close from a lot of different angles and Fort Worth/Tarrant County's healthcare infrastructure falls far short of meeting the needs of a city and county that will have one and two million residents respectively.
I would love to see a better plan. Would love to see Warren Buffet or Alice Walton pull the cash out of their bank accounts.
Don't see any reason why Tarrant county voters shouldn't be allowed to decide whether or not the current proposal is good or not. Telling me the proposal is "detrimental” and a “boondoggle" means nothing without any data as to why.

That's probably more of a product of Anna Tinsley's writing style, which is usually just a bunch of short quotes and he said she said commentary.

I've heard JPS has closed or is working on acquiring on 5 blocks East of S Main, S of Cannon and North of Dashwood, and West of Crawford.
Edit- TAD confirms this.
Interested to see what happens here, and also a little worried it could take away possible momentum from S Main's private development.

I'm wondering why JPS needs so much land so far away from their main complex.

JPS's selection of bids recieved in it's RFP for development of surface lots along Magnolia is suppossed to be decided in December. I'm not finding anything on whether a decision has been made.
You can view the RFP here -> http://www.jpshealth...net-opportunity

I sent an email asking for info, here is the response,
"We are under contract but can't disclose details. If it closes, it is 2022 completion and occupancy."
