There is a new art festival for kids this year on Magnolia Ave.  It is on March 9th.

The website is http://www.magnoliamakebelieve.com

As part of the festival, a glass tile mosaic will be installed permanently on the outside of the Chat Room.

The timing of the festival coincides with the National Art Educator Association's national conference in downtown this year.

Interesting that they picked the diviest dive bar in Fort Worth to put a children's art project on.  Not complaining, mind you, but I find it interesting.

Diviest dive bar/beloved Magnolia institution.  :)

Plus, it's a natural canvas, since it's one of the few remaining examples of bunker-like "riot architecture" left on the street.

Hahaha Doohickie! Honestly, if it weren't for the smoke I'd let my 5 year old go to the Chat with me.  They have computers!

FW, this is so exciting. Do you know what kinds of activities they might have? I looked at the website but didn't find that answer.

The mural will be on the side facing Magnolia, and as Fort Worthology stated, it's a natural canvas.  It's a 10' x 30' wall with nothing but an open sign on it.

There are some pictures on their facebook page of the mural's progress.  Cement boards have been distributed to severalschools to allow the children to help in creating this project.

avvy, I am not familiar with the list of activities, but my wife is on the planning committee.  I will see if she can give me more info, and see if they can put more info on the website.

The festival will include make and take booths where the kids will be able to make something and take it with them for free.  There will also be booths selling art for kids at kids prices ($5).

I agree with both those sentiments.  I would like the Chat a lot more if there wasn't smoking, but hey, different strokes, I guess.

The event had to be pared down due to the weather, but there was enough time before the rain to get the mural on the wall.  It still needs to be grouted which will happen next weekend.

The Star-Telegram stopped by and took some pictures.

We stopped by last night after dinner at cat city. Good to see lots of families walking along magnolia. The mural was cool. Guess the streets were not closed as planned based on the storm coming?

The plan was to close the street and setup tents in the middle of the street.  With the wind, the tent company would not set them up.  They ended up only having things at Avoca and SiNaCa.  Magnolia Make Believe is going to try to combine with the Arts Goggle  in May to have the kid specific activities set up, so all is not lost.

Arts Goggle used to be at this time, but they ended up moving it due to the weather.  Magnolia Make Believe was forced into this weekend to coincide with the National Art Education Assoc. conference that was going on downtown.

The weather was playing tricks all day, so it was impossible to gauge.  I'm glad we went. We ran into some friends that we didn't know would be there, along with many whom we'd made plans with.  Any event that does that is a success in my book.
