Please keep it civil. This is your second offense on implied name-calling.

So many threads on commuter rail, this seemed as good as any. For your entertainment, an  article in the Business Press by A. Lee Graham about a Dallas consultant's optimism regarding rail transit in Fort Worth.

It's somewhat ironic that the "vibrant areas" mentioned in the article, West 7th, Sundance Square, Downtown, and the Stockyards, will not be connected by TEX rail.   This article is pretty vague on the context of the remarks; were "Paris Rutherford" and Jungus Jordan speaking at the same event?  Their remarks don't seem to agree with each other on the future of rail in Ft Worth.

J. Jordan quote to close out the article:  "Ultimately we would run a rail line down Seventh Street"

Gee, councilman Jordan, what form of rail might that be?  If he hadn't voted to kill the streetcar in 2010, we could already be talking about the next logical extension to that system connecting W 7th to downtown.  Another noted streetcar-slayer, Carter Burdette, is now part of the T board, pushing for a system that will add very little meaningful connectivity to the neighborhoods surrounding the CBD.

Yeah, Jordan's quotes are rich to be sure. No way on earth you're gonna run a heavy commuter rail down W 7th. The council's failure in 2010 set us back at least a decade in all forms of transportation other than roads.

I certainly hope that the new W 7th Bridge was designed with a future rail line in mind. I seem to remember it was but I can't find anything online confirming that.

I have been told that the new bridge was designed for a future rail line.

It was.  I've seen the specs.  In the inner lanes if I recall correctly.

And yes, that article was rich.  Talking about all the hotspots...that the TEX won't connect.  Mentioning how we have natural spots that Dallas didn't have until Mockingbird Station...which was built on a light rail line, not a 9-to-5 long-headways commuter train line (the only thing commuter rail tends to generate is park & rides, not dense infill development) - which, as I said, TEX doesn't actually connect to.  "Run a rail line down 7th Street" - gee, Jungus, some of us tried to do that very thing and you helped stop it.

Sounds like a guy we might want to vote out of office.

Jungus is running unopposed for the Dist 6 seat... if you're in that district you've got until March 1 to submit your name for consideration.  (PSA, the election will be held May 11th.)
