Based on this photo Fort Worth's Downtown is definitely going to get more dense. I believe that the more is built the more business will come to the city which will also mean a bigger boost the cities population and job market

My uncle's business had an office in that building for years. I have a lot of fond memories of working there during the Arts Fest off and on from my teens until just a few years ago.

I drove by there yesterday. The building that once housed the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County is completely gone and the land is being graded! I guess this means construction of the new hotel will soon begin?

Drove by there this morning and saw a mid-size crane at the site and the start of construction. The artist rendering posted here previously shows an eight-story hotel but I don't see any parking levels in the building or a separate garage. The Raymond Group website still has no mention of this project, at least nothing in their portfolio or new developments sections. And the architect's website does not mention this project, either. For a new mid-size hotel project, this one has been unheralded, to say the least.

Ground level will primarily be reception, pool, bar, lounge areas but will also have some parking at the South end of the building.
Floors 2 and 3 will be parking garage space and floors 4 through 8 will be guestrooms.

Normally, I don't duplicate images, but I took a photograph of the rendering from across Commerce Street yesterday, and it appears that my image is a little clearer and sharper than what was posted earlier, so I thought I would share.

Back on topic. The building itself is a decent design, but I'm a little perplexed by the convention center utility building right next to this project. It is in desperate need of a facelift or some sort of aesthetic paint job or lighting to spruce it up. It's grunginess, and I'm not using that term in a good way, will really stand out next to a newly built hotel.

This is already going vertical, some columns have been poured.
I was curious if the building would take the full block, or go back to the 200x200 grid, and then the city begin to rebuild the grid in that area as time goes on, so what would be 10th street would run to the south of the hotel and north of convention power plant in what was a parking lot. This does not seem to be the case however, the building goes right up to the power plant and there is no ROW room. As a result, the dimensions of this block are about 200x240. Perhaps when the arena is demolished, the power plant will go with it and 10th the leftover land will be used for 10th street.

Austin, at least in recent times, 10th Street stopped at Commerce. If you look at Historic Aerials and old photographs, you can see that the Majestic Theater (1911) was built across part of the intersection, so I think that the street actually stopped at Commerce and did not extend to Jones. 11th Street stopped at Calhoun, and 12th was the first through street to Jones, other than 9th.

Replacing 10th Street between Commerce and Jones would be possible if the convention center power plant is moved into the new ballroom complex set to replace the arena. Doing so would help to open up the vacant lots to the east of the center for development by providing easy access to those blocks and to public transportation available at the Multimodal Center (Jones Street Station).

How many different window fenestrations, colors, forms and materials can we slap on "Beatlejuice" architecture these days?...this building would be a much stronger architectural statement if it was simpler in design....makes me wish for the old Greyhound terminal back....at least it seemed like more honest modernism.

I had wondered if they would use wood since it was only 5 floors. It is also interesting that the glass in the windows appears to be built right into the walls. Seems like a lot of this project has been prefabricated.

It's been a while since someone has shown a photo. I was downtown on Christmas day, and I took this shot of the construction. The building is close to full height.

I'd not yet seen a photo of the backside. The hotel section is U shaped and sits on top of the garage podium. I believe there is a pool up there, not sure.

They were removing it this morning. The Downtown Walking Tours took a Monuments and Public Arts Tour this month, and we were allowed to go to the top of the Municipal Parking Garage. That's where I noticed the crane being taken down.

My biggest gripe about all recent hotel and apartment block construction recently is the vent covers, they look like a cluttered mess. All those dark grey/brown sqaures all over really detract from an otherwise attractive building.
Can't they paint them the same color as the brick? That would help.

From the rendering it looks like they are going to be closer to the color of the exterior wall

I was downtown this evening and I was driving by the hotel and I think some of the louvers on the north side of the building have been painted to match the color of the surrounding material. I will be back down there tomorrow, so I will take a closer look.
On another note, the signs may be larger on the final product than they show on the rendering. The rendering shows they will be three stories, while the brackets on the building are about one floor taller.

Signage has now been installed. There are currently three signs on the building. There's one on the ground floor at the motor court entrance and there are two blade signs. One is on Commerce and the other is on 9th Street. Also planned, are two top of building signs, one on the east side and the other on the south side. Those have not been installed.
