#150566 DFW Airport Carriers

Posted by Volare on 01 February 2024 - 06:31 PM

I flew to Brisbane several times over the past year for work. Very cool city. Managed to see the third place match for the Women's World Cup when that was going on. Imagine a stadium on the edge of downtown with exactly zero parking spots (other than handicapped parking). The only way to access the stadium was via foot, train, or bus.

Race Street has several problems. One of them is a nearly monopolistic ownership of properties on the street that allows a business to get off the ground, and then chokes it to death with rent increases once successful. I'm pretty convinced that Race will never reach critical mass due to this.

I would presume more leisure locations (Mexico, Colorado, etc.) out of DFW

Love is an entirely domestic airport (as part of Wright Amendment agreements), so your Mexico point is probably spot on. Add in the rest of the Caribbean.

As we have seen in the past, any agreement with regards to Love Field is readily ignored.

And Heritage Park

And Riverside Park. They got their flood storage, and the neighborhood got none of the promised amenities.

#147932 DFW and the 2026 World Cup

Posted by Volare on 02 September 2023 - 04:48 AM

I recently had the opportunity to attend the 3rd place match at the Women's World Cup in Brisbane Australia. This was a match between Australia and Sweden. Since the local team was featured we figured tickets would be impossible to get. Fortunately the organizers require a certain portion of tickets be set aside for citizens of countries other than the hosts (NZ and Australia). So believe it or not we got tickets the day before the match for $50US. Insane.

Anyway, the stadium is right in downtown Brisbane, and features no parking for cars. The only way you can come in a car is if you have a mobility issue and have a ticket as such. Otherwise-no. Instead they have buses and trains all thru the area, and all are free to come and go to the game. We waited about 20 minutes at the end of the match until we could board a bus back to our hotel. It was superior in every way to driving/stuck in traffic, etc.

Downtown St. Paul is such a cool place. Xcel Energy center, multiple museums, Cosetta's. That Children's museum pictured above makes the FTW one pale in comparison.

Man I love to visit that place whenever I go back there.

#146334 PBR finals moving to Arlington. Dickies arena not big enough .

You're grasping at straws.  They want it in a stadium.  A larger arena in Fort Worth wouldn't have made any difference.

But if they were given incentives, how is their moving *not* a breach of contract?  Did Fort Worth word the contract that poorly?

Probably the same folks who negotiated Pier 1 place for the City Hall and turned that into a debacle.

Thanks, that's helpful. The applicant must be adding some kind of UDC-relevant structure to the bare lot; I guess I'm confused because I don't understand why a farmers market held every Saturday from 10am - 2pm needs any structures at all. Like, just circle some pickup trucks and put out some sandwich boards?

In any case, farmers markets are cool and I think this is a great location for hold one!

I've seen markets in New Braunfels, TX and Edmond, OK that have a permanent shade structure as well as power. I'm guessing that's what we are talking about here.

Nothing ever happens on time in Fort Worth

Other than the purchase of Pier 1 tower for a new city hall. That happens in 3 weeks (and then costs triple what they paid for the building in the long run).
