This designation sounds a little like that afforded "Route 66" although that route is still there. Another component of the "National Trail System" is the Trail of Tears. The Chisholm trail had a major branch that passed through Fort Worth, and the (Great) Western passed further west. To me this plan would have more significance if there was a long-term plan to work with local jurisdictions to actually have a TRAIL along these routes that could be used by hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders, etc. Such a trail would not have to be built all at once, but in segments like the trail between Mineral Wells and Weatherford that uses abandoned railroad right of way.
