I'm sure most of you have probably been wondering where I have been. Well, I have been working a lot of overtime. However, I scheduled a weekend off to do a bike tour organized by one of the ladies in the Fort Worth Bicycling Association. For many years, the club did the Austin to Fort Worth Ride during the month of April. The original concept was to get in a van and haul the bicycles to Austin on a Friday and then ride back to Fort Worth over the next two days. The ride back was fully supported. I had done the ride several times in previous years and I never finished it because one of the days (sometimes both) either had rain or extreme head winds.
This year, in order to keep costs down, we rode Amtrak from Cleburne to Taylor on Friday. Taylor is about 30 miles northeast of Austin. The starting and ending points were also changed to avoid heavy traffic. Taking the train was a lot of fun and that is the first time that I had done that since my college days. This year, we had strong tail winds both days and we rode back to Cleburne with record times. The organizer furnished us lunch on both days and provided SAG support for a small fee. Overall, I had a ball and I put in 180 miles over the weekend with very little effort. I almost didn't have to pedal.
I didn't take any photographs, because I wanted to ride strong and actually stick to business. This trip was very inexpensive. I think the cost of the weekend, including sharing of motel rooms, train ride, the small fee for the event, and other miscellaneous items, was less than $150. I had a ball!
