Not a big fan of the new skyline pic. Makes the city look polluted and the skyline very thin and spread out.

It's only temporary until I can get back out on the west side. The last photo showed the Omni barely rising out of the skyline. I could switch it back, but the other one is so out of date.

I do have a current night shot taken from the Amon Carter Museum Porch in January. I could upload that temporarily. My work schedule has eased up some, so I think I'm going to have more time to work on the site. However, recently my schedule hasn't really been that heavy, but my boss and clients have expected me to do things at the spur of the moment which has kept me in the office late without it having been planned. For me, when I get home at 7:00 PM when I thought I would be leaving at 5, it kind of messes up my evening. After this week, I expect more of the unexpected sessions of staying late at the office. The one thing that I'm thankful for is that I have a job and that our office is busy enough that I am guaranteed to be here for the next 6 months or so. After that, it could be a different story. I'm also bicycling some to stay sane, but I haven't ridden as much this year as I did in 2008.

Is there anything more lame than complaining about a pic the owner a web site took in their own free time that is posted on their site that is provided to the public free of charge?

JBB,

This is a public forum for people to express their opinions. Just because I commented on the main photo for the site does not mean that I do not appreciate this forum or the work that John does to keep it up. This forum is one of my favorite places on the web but I think if everyone always agreed and never expressed their opinions then that would be lame.

Jeff

Jefffwd, I just wanted to let you know that I normally carry a camera with me, but I haven't had one in my truck since last Friday. My plans for after work were to go to the Montgomery Plaza Super Target and get groceries. I read your post, and I decided to go home first, get my camera, take a new skyline photograph, and then go to Super Target for groceries. I'm sending you a bill at a rate of $100 per hour (my normal billing rate) and the clock started ticking when I left the office. I turned off the meter when I finished taking the pictures. The trip from the office to the house, to change clothes, drive to the Amon Carter porch and take the photograph took one hour. I will be billing out one hour for Photoshop editing. That is a grand total of 2 hours at $100 per hour, so I will be billing you $200 for the photograph, and I will post it within a few days.

I hope you can take a joke because I was just kidding. I will get the new photo up soon, but I will try to replace the shot with my night photo from the Amon Carter in the meantime. I really didn't mind running home to get my camera to take the picture. When I have the time, I aim to please. This is your web site, too.

John,

Thanks for taking those pictures. The first one (daytime) was interesting as I've never seen that view before where it shows the Omni detached from the downtown core. It'll be interesting to see over the next decade if in-fill occurs in that area with low, mid, or high-rises.

I don't know of another vantage point that really brings out the urban density of Fort Worth, as well as showing off the signature towers, like the Amon Carter Musuem porch. However, if there is one then I'd like to see it. The night time shot is handsome...even more so if the Omni introduces a lighting scheme in the future.

Thanks, again.

Pilgrim

Actually, one of my favorites is just to the north of the Amon Carter Museum porch at the University of North Texas Health Science Center where I had taken some earlier skyline shots. However, since the new building was built on Camp Bowie, that view is partially blocked and now with the construction of the Omni Hotel, not all of the skyline can be seen from that point. My ultimate goal is to get permission from the school to shoot from the upper floors of their building. However, that will take a less busy work schedule when I can come at the time they will allow me to take the photos. The other issue with that is when the skyline changes, I would have to schedule another photo shoot.

Nice pic.

Suggestion for another one: I've either a.) forgotten my camera or b.) not the right time of day for lighting, but if you don't mind not getting the Pier 1/Chesapeake Energy building, what about a skyline shot zoomed waaay in from here on one of the hills next to I-30?

I have shot the skyline from there and I never have been pleased with the view because of our taller buildings blocking some of the other taller buildings. The two City Center Towers look like one massive building from I-30. In other words, I think the skyline looks smaller from that angle.

That location is where I took my photo back in the 80's that I posted under another thread. Like you said, the new building on Camp Bowie partially blocks the view of downtown. sad.gif

Volare, I used to take many skyline shots from Modlin Ave., that has now been removed and is now inside the campus. I think I have also posted some old skyline shots taken back in the 1980's from there.

My "personal" favorite view of downtown is coming FROM North Fort Worth on I-35 just about as you go over the Trinity River............BEAUTIFUL!! smile.gif
