Brian, you better start wearing a safety harness or have the wife hold onto your belt. As always love your pictures.

Chesapeake Building had a little Mother's Day tribute tonight. Was quite pretty.

30 second clip. (prettier in person) Happy Mother's Day to all. (My Mom gone.)

Brian,
You should do one of those the next time a thunderstorm blows by in the distance!

Would be great to catch a thunderstorm but the last several were surprise attacks... (last 2 Friday's in a row for example.) I'll get one. If I live long enough I will probably get a tornado. Have never seen one, however, and have been looking all my life. (I guess that probably makes me lucky rather than unlucky.)

I definitely do not see myself as a smart guy that runs for cover.

These are the closest I've come to good 'twister' shots - all from our house in Haslet

This is from 5/24/2011, 8pm, looking west - just seemed kind of ominous, so I started taking pictures

Posted Image

15 minutes later, I went to the deck out back (now looking east), and caught this funnel, which touched down in Haslet proper (the house is actually in unincorporated Tarrant County)

Posted Image
Posted Image

On 9/19/2011, 6:45pm, I noticed this interesting cloud formation, so grabbed the camera. In my woefully uninformed opinion, I thought it looked like it could be an RFD (rear-flank downdraft). I ended up with 71 shots over the next 55 minutes...
Posted Image

Once I noticed the mammo clouds, I thought this might be more than just a pretty sunset, so I stuck around to see if it got more interesting

Posted Image

This is as far as it got - nothing ever touched down as far as I know. It was actually a clear day with no storms or warnings at all, so I've never been sure what this was!

^I do know those burgers smell great...

I took this shot of the Cats game tonight. (From my balcony with my 800) fun to watch them in action. I see them working on fireworks. I will check that out as well. I was hoping to get home from work soon enough to catch some shots of John Roberts and Mayor Price riding along the Trinity. But could not get away early enough.

I didn't ride with the Mayor tonight. You may even have her in your photograph above. She started the ride at LaGrave Field and the plan was to attend the game with the other cyclists.

Nice pictures! I was also glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought the 'ride the Mayor' comment seemed a little odd - a typo I'm, sure, but still worth a chuckle

I rode with the Mayor on Wednesday, as it was one of the rare Wednesdays that I'm not out of town. It was a fiasco, to put it lightly. We met up in the LaGrave lot, then discovered there is no trail access from LaGrave! A fence surrounds the entire parking lot, requiring everyone to dismount and climb the levee- lots of fun in cycling cleats as you can imagine. Then it was two miles north (downwind) before turning back sound into a 35 mph gale. By the time we were abeam Riverside park the group was strung out and destroyed. Many recreational riders were unprepared to deal with winds like that. I continued with a smaller group of 25 or so who did the originally planned route out towards Gateway then along the gravel path on the north side of the river. Then up 4th into downtown and back to LaGrave via Main. Then I got to climb the levee again to ride home!

Sure hope we can remove some of these barriers to trail access in the city! I know of plenty more of them where a trail is blocked by a fence or chain. Maybe as part of the new Drive-In they will see about making an access point to the trail in that area.

Josh, I use a D7000 with a 50mm lens, but I've started using my 24mm perspective control lens recently. Now that I have the hang of the PC lens and the lens aperture settings, I'm starting to get some better pictures. One of the biggest learning curves of the PC lens is the manual focus; I usually take my photos around 6:30 am, so sometimes it is hard to focus - some of it is the aperture of the lens and some of it involves not being able to see minute details in the camera viewfinder. I primarily use the tilt on the lens, but here is a shift that I did on the TCC campus downtown: http://www.flickr.co...n/photostream/. I just need to take the lens up high now so that I can miniaturize the city.

The Trinity Trails by the Ballpark is my new main running trail. Sure enough, I have wished I could get over to the Ballpark area. I guess there is some reason for that. Maybe too convenient for punks to steal stuff or vandalize coming from the backside on the river? Maybe liability with kids watching baseball wondering over to the River? I guess if it is private property they just want less exposure. Can't blame them for that. I stay surprised that there are not sidewalks all the way from Downtown to the Ballpark. (like contiguous)

Once in awhile as we leave the city in the morning, I'll see someone walking in or out of town on the north half of the Main Street bridge - the half without sidewalks - it seems like a disaster waiting to happen. You'd think that with all the work recently completed on the bridge, they would have addressed this problem. This coupled with the stories above kind of makes you wonder about the 'think-ahead capabilities' of the folks who plan all this work...

I am curious about this and wondered if anybody knew the answer. Orphaned train cars in the middle of nowhere. (Not by a warehouse, train station etc...) Why would they ever do this? It is actually pretty frequent in this spot. Why would a train leave a few cars on a track? I waited until a train went by to take my shots to just point out there is another set of tracks there. Between White Settlement and Henderson St. near downtown. 2 shots. One closer.

I don't know why anyone would do it, but I have seen it before. There have been a number of unused rail cars in the yard on 8th Ave. across from the Ryan Place entrance over the years. There were also a handful of unused cars that sat on the spur line that used to run along Forest Park Blvd. just to the north of Magic Etc. I believe the spur line itself is actually gone now.

I see this all the time. Trash around a bus stop that includes a trash can. This was on my way to Target this morning. (I run Friday morning because it is my late day.) Makes me really mad. At a lot of people. And society in general. The people that threw these beer cans and trash on the street right next to a trash can, are no better than rodents. Maybe not as worthy. It is a result of people being brought up without parents or with ignorant parents. In a society that encourages it.

West 7th Street just West of Henderson. I meant to include the bus stop bench in my i-phone shot.

I suppose it's possible that one of the bums who wander the city could have been rooting through the trash and tossing aside what they didn't want or what they 'finished off', but either way - yeah, pretty disgusting.

Agree. I think close (to the trash can ) does not count. On Saturday morning, my son who manages a Target store in FTW found a crackhead sleeping in the handicap stall of the rest room. He had a roll of tissue for his pillow. He had refused to leave and was escorted out by the police.

Maybe whoever placed it there was confused since there is no recycle container. 4 out of 5 of the items do not belong in a TRASH container. This sort of awareness usually starts in school if not at home, and at an early age. Most area school systems do not have a comprehensive classroom/lunchroom recycling program... go figure.

I was thinking the same about this week - I love to watch the storms as long as they are not right next door! I'll be flying out Thursday afternoon and back in Friday evening in a fairly small jet - might get interesting! I'll of course have the camera with me...

^ like that Ron. BTW, most of us wound up in this Country for its free speech.

I found out who these people were when they sent me an e-mail from the Director of TCU outdoor programs asking for the photo. Luckily I had the hi rez version on my photobucket site at work to send him. I am going to take more shots of their gang in a few days. (All in this TCU program) Next time I hope to take a few shots when it is not dark. That shot was actually in the dark.

I took this shot out yesterday morning from UTA Fort Worth. Have never been up on the porch. What they heck, I figured, I am a Texas Taxpayer and a UTA alum of 5 years. Paid full tuition too. (Was not smart or fast enough for any scolarships...)

It is kind of rare that the only lens on me is my 50 1.2. It is my lightest and I was picking up trash mostly.

Just north of HWY 30 @ Beach I spied a place that rented skulling shells, maybe they rent kayaks too?

If you could get from 3rd street to the river, maybe it's something the bike shop could rent too, besides just bikes?

Disappointed we did not get more rain. Maybe tonight. I took this lightning shot at Midnight. Have never seen anything like it. The entire sky was filled with lighting. Just for a second or two. really nothing before or after for 30 minutes. It was like a web of lighting. This shot only gets the bottom of the sky. Does not do the event any justice really. Also no thunder from it. I don't really get it. It did it again at 12:30, about a half hour later. Exact same. Whole sky, no thunder, nothing before or after.

Reflection of ceiling fan in shot. (On YOUTUBE, the UFO people would talk about it for a year...)

Ha! (It's funny cuz it's TRUE!)

As for the folks on the river, I saw them Saturday evening. My bicycle ride went from my house (Sycamore School & McCart area), down Columbus Trail and on to the southwest hospital district, to Bellaire, then the Trinity Trails all the way up to 23rd by the Stockyards, then down Samuels and home via downtown and the southside. I ran into the kayakers right by the Woodshed. I dinged my bell at them and they shouted back.

Here's a little different photo. This is the alley where the Scat Jazz Lounge is located. However, instead of a night shot, this is one taken in the daylight hours.

John, you are right about getting some daylight shots. Kind of refreshing. I seldom venture out in broad daylight. Mostly if I am too visible the Ladies chase me. That and I get sunburned in 5 minutes. And that part is not a joke.

Wife and I went to her family farm in Arlington for fathers day. Wife has a niece in town from California and she is getting into photography. She had her Rebel XSi. (I used to have one.) I took some pictures of her with it. (Us photographers are never in the picture.) They just harvested the wheat.

Here are a couple of shots that I took of the Caceria Building over the weekend.

Nice pics. That building turned out great. You would never know by looking at the pics that it was built just a few years ago.

I like the building a lot as well. Curious how it is doing, lease wise. I really does blend in nicely with its neighborhood.

And nice photos John.

Thanks for the comments on the photos. I thought the one taken on Saturday morning turned out quite nice.

Salata has leased the ground floor and will be opening within the next few months. They are a salad bar kind of restaurant and they have several locations in Dallas and Houston.

A couple misc. shots. Looks like the Courthouse Rehab is done! Last of the scaffolding came down.
And I noticed this little helicopter on the grass by the river. (Thursday at 7:30pm... like the clock says)

Somebody sure went wild with an orange can of spray paint. I was amazed by all the markings on the street, and dirt. Guess they are about to start digging...

According to the tweets on Sundance Square's web site, they have found the old basement walls of the Westbrook Hotel to be intact. Also, they have found the remains of an old swimming pool on one of the building sites.
