Last weekend's Lone Star Film Festival seems to have hit a great mark, with well-known local artists Betty Buckley, Bill Paxton, and T-Bone Burnett in the spotlight as well as Brit Malcolm "Little Alex" McDowell.
Wouldn't it be great if Burnett would consider fronting a club in downtown ("T-Bone's - Not the Steakhouse") where he could make occasional appearances with some of the many music makers he has collaborated with, and the long line of other music makers who would love to collaborate with him. Burnett has a wide range of song-writing ability, and maybe the rule for performers there is that each one would choose a T-Bone song to perform during their time on-stage. No need to look back at Caravan Days (sigh...) this could be a focus for looking into the future of music coming out of Fort Worth.
Come on T-Bone!
FYI his next project: http://www.star-tele...le44095488.html

It was a very interesting video. Bob Ray Sanders looked so young, and Steve Murrin had dark hair. Tandy Tower I was under construction and the CNB clock was still revolving.

Although Fort Worth is a very different city, a lot of what's in that video still applies. It's still a big small city or a small big city. It's a nice niche, really.

It was the first thing I read when I picked up my phone this morning. Terrible news. He's done a lot less high profile work in recent years, but he had a great run of big roles in some of the biggest popcorn flicks of the 90s, including one that was a best picture winner.

And he just started a new TV series that premiered month . That just makes it even more surreal.

Fort Worth's 15 minutes of fame; Lets turn it into a long running serial. This is both a step in the right direction and an encouraging turn of events

I've been told some filmmakers are scared to film in Texas because state incentives can change with each legislative session, and the state refused to deliver promised incentives to a "questionable" film years ago.

8 of 10 best schools in the nation are in Southern California. With #11 UT other local film colleges and institutions plus the state office for the Texas Film Commission there, Austin, Texas has grabbed up the majority of film and advertisement business in the state.
TCU has a film department but the bulk of film departments in North Texas are to be found "you no know where"! More often then not, local scenes of NT are of areas not in Fort Worth. Its so ironic since Fort Worth is home to some of the best Texas-esqe sites and street-scapes around; and I want to be in the movies.

Yep. Far more production takes place in Big D than here.

The thing about "Walker Texas Ranger" Back in the 90's. Yes many scenes were shot in Fort Worth. Tarrant County Courthouse Stockyards.and such. But the fictional police department was a "Dallas" police department !

Excellent move. As I have grown more aware of, and grown somewhat bitter there of, the Austin Region almost exclusively the poster child of Texana, it is great to see Fort Worth taking the initiative to showcase its tremendous "Texana Creds" to the outside world.
Soon, there will be opportunities for Cowtowners to work and be apart of commercials; to have their lifestyle brought to the fore front; etc. It is way overdue.

Read, not sure where, that the film "Miss Juneteenth" is being screened at GBT - homegrown and home screened; now that is a novelty.

I couldn't find any mention of this on the forum. The trailer for 12 Mighty Orphans, the movie about the Masonic Home football team based on the Jim Dent book, was released today.
Posted 16 April 2021 - 03:56 PM
And for some fun, here's a screenshot from the trailer of Farrington Field with a digitally altered, period appropriate background and skyline. I see what I think is one inaccuracy and I'm sure there's more, but it's actually a really neat shot. I believe there's another shot of the skyline earlier in the trailer.

The one innaccuracy I see is the hole in the facade of the Montgomery Wards building. I really don't know enough about the timeline of downtown buildings to know how accurate the skyline is, but I'm sure it's a little blurry on purpose. That said, it's a really neat shot.
Posted 17 April 2021 - 08:05 AM
Yes, the hole in Montgomery Ward's building shouldn't show up. It also appears that some of the newer downtown buildings are present in the skyline, but there is not enough detail there to verify.
Posted 17 April 2021 - 08:56 AM
That's what I thought. In the skyline shot at the beginning of the trailer, it looks like they left the Omni in as well.

Looks like they've been filming for a while including at the Pythian Home in Weatherford. This article data Nov 2019.

I tried to zoom in and enhance but really tough from screen shots.

The multi-season TV series called The Chosen about the life of Christ, has chosen North Texas for its filming locations including parts filmed already at Capernaum Village in Weatherford, Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian, and Benbrook Lake. Fort Worth-based Out of Order Studios is producing the show and have secured funding for Season 2 with potentially five more seasons.
Article: "TV show that broke crowdfunding records puts down permanent roots in North Texas"
Article: "'The Chosen,' a streaming series about Jesus, used equity crowdfunding, a technique (rarely used in Hollywood) made possible through a provision in President Obama's JOBS Act."

12 Mighty Orphans: Filming Locations Tour

Beautiful film locations and a welcoming city--it’s not hard to see why we were so thrilled to be able to call Fort Worth our home away from home during production.
“12 Mighty Orphans” filmed in Fort Worth, Texas in the fall of 2019. Sony Pictures Classics will release the film nationwide on June 18, 2021.Anne Fleitas (Co-producer)

12 Mighty Orphans is out today. I think this film will be a huge hit for members of the forum. It's a film about a Fort Worth story, filmed in Fort Worth, that references Fort Worth frequently. There's not a whole lot of places it seemed to have filmed really, a lot of the film takes place at the Weatherford pythian home, but there's several other places (referenced in the blog above) that you'll get some glimpses of. There's a ton of Fort Worth references and places nearby, like the other schools, some funny jokes (Fort Worth goats a funny one, if you've seen it). There's a cool shot of downtown regarding the Star-Telegram at one point where the old Worth Hotel has been digitally added back into the cityscape was fun. It feels well researched.
Now I'm no movie critic or enthusiast myself, but separating my Fort Worth love from the movie I think it still stood out as excellent and enjoyable. Luke Wilson doe a great job. There's some good humor interspersed that got the audience going. The story plot overall is very feel-good. There's some lovely cinematic shots throughout and the kids do some good acting. Maybe a little over-dramatized at times, but I think there's plenty of appeal to a mass audience.

The last filmed-in-Fort Worth movie, Miss Juneteenth, basically flipped the score of 12MO over. Fans didn't care for it, critics loved it.

The one in the first article, by the way, is the story about the Westside All Stars, the Fort Worth baseball team that won the Little League World Series in 2002.
