Historic? I suppose so. First Church of Christ to have air conditioning and be on TV, and one of the largest C of C's in the country for awhile. The building was long abandoned and neglected, and appears to be a total loss; vandalism and arson seems to be the obvious culprit. Hopefully some new housing can be built in its place as the area surrounding the site is all residential and not facing any sort of major street.

It was over 50 years old, so it would have met the age qualification to start the process of determining that it was historic.  From the article, it sounds as if it was eligible for historic designation, meeting a few more of the criteria.  However, it does appear to be a total loss.

Saw that on WFAA's news. Truly sad as besides meeting the National Register criteria it also appears to be an act of arson. The news report said it had been vacant for 15 years. Some former congregation members shared old photos from the church when it was active. Like most of Poly, it appears to have experienced major demographic changes since the 1970's. There have been too many arson fires in this neighborhood in recent years but it highlights the risks of leaving a structure vacant for too long. (John Roberts knows that I'm thinking about another historic structure while typing this-no need to elaborate)
