I've now upgraded the forum and I have a few things to do, but this upgrade offers a new skin or look for the board. It utilizes a different font and a different color scheme. Currently, the default is the old scheme, but you can change yours to the new look by going to the lower left hand corner of any forum page. There is a box to choose the form skin. However, I would like for all of you to vote to determine what the default look of the forum will be.

If there are any comments, you can post them here.

I'm more of a blue person, but I like the change.

I like the colorings about the same. But I think the new font is more readable.

New skin is great. Just in time for the new year, a fresh new look for the forum! It'll be great as the default.

I like the text and the iPro skin. Easier to read. Miss the header Fort Worth Skyline photo.

I will get the header and the Fort Worth Skyline photo back up. It's just a link to the location of the graphic on the site.

i like both overall, but i voted for the old. the dark gray on the new skin seems too dark to me (contrast of page elements seems too high) and i find the old font easier to read. could be the new contacts and lack of sleep. i'm happy either way and i can always use either one when i'm logged in. thanks for asking.

Donnie, you will still be able to select which skin you wish to use. Our selection is just which one is going to be the default.

I find the new skin much easier to read and generally less strain on my eyes.

The old skin was nice, the new is even better, IMO. Nicely done!

Also, there is more information available to be posted on your personal profile. If any of you wish to share additional information, you can edit your profile to tell us more. It is not required of you to add more specifics, but I just wanted to let everyone know that you may want to correct or update your personal profile.

Multiple Choice Polls have also been finally integrated into the forum without adding it by a third party provider.

John, this is related only tangentially to this thread, but since the upgrade I have had cookie problems with the site. Before, my cookie was pretty close to permanent -- I had bookmarked the "View New Posts" page as my point of entry into the forum, even. Now, it seems that my cookie expires after a few hours, or perhaps whenever my IP address changes. Any ideas?

No. It could be that some of the settings changed in the upgrade. I will take a look.

Chris, there is a "topicsread" cookie that is updated every time you read a thread. If you go back to "View New Posts" after reading a thread that is listed there, the folder icon for that thread is greyed-out indicating there are no new replies. However, that cookie is set to expire at the end of your session, so if you leave and come back the thread shows up as unread. That's not very useful and can be quite unnerving if you find yourself re-reading one of my rambling ill-considered posts by mistake. (Most of the other cookies for this site are set to expire either in about a year or in 2020.)

Is that what you're seeing? Is there anything else?

Chris, I figured out the problem with the cookie. In order for the cookie to remain, you must enter and exit through the forum default skin. If the old skin is where you logged in, and you then changed to the new skin and left the forum, then the cookie will not be kept. It looks as if we may have problems with people forgetting their log in usernames and passwords if I make the switch to the new skin.

Thanks, John. That's completely consistent with what I've experienced.

Does the forum app have a password reminder feature?

Chris, the forum does have a password reminder, but it involves e-mail. Right now, I'm having e-mail problems through the forum, and David Love and myself have traced it back to my host. I will get with them to see if it can be resolved.

Feel free to consult back with me about e-mail, John. That's basically what I shove around for a living.

Chris, I may have to do that, but David Love and I have determined that it may be with my host. I'm going to be checking into that this week.

PLS, you're welcome. If we make the switch, everyone is going to need to remember their User Names and Passwords. Another option is for all of you to just switch to the forum skin you like best. If I do make the switch and since forum e-mail doesn't work, I would be willing to change people's passwords to something that I set, then you could change them to whatever you like once you have logged on. However, if we go this route, then all of you who couldn't remember your password would have to adjust their forum logging to my schedule. Unfortunately, I have to work for a living and can't do forum maintenance on company time.
