There's a lot of funny stuff on there, especially if you go back and look at when she was just posting pics straight out of MLS listings (last month). In a very feeble defense of some of it, I would say that a lot of what she's poking fun at is outdated decorating choices. We've been casually house hunting over the last six months or so and she makes reference to one of my pet peeves that I see way too often: flat panel TV's mounted above fire places. It makes my skin crawl.

And a language warning for anyone that's sensitive about that. It didn't bother me, but it might be a little salty for some.

What else you gonna put up there in that otherwise wasted space? A deer head?

I read this last night and loved it. I'm sure those in the construction/architecture business will especially enjoy some of the atrocities.

One thing that drives me nuts is a house that has a roof that's basically a standard hip roof, but then in the front has a whole bunch of gables.  Not only does it look cluttered, but it makes for complicated roof lines that are not well designed to handle heavy rains.

So, a McMansion is anything thats 3000sf, 3 bathrooms and a 3 car garage? Really? I would have never in a million years considered my house a McMansion. Ever.

Most of that blog is pretty tongue-in-cheek subjective.  I would say that the architectural quirks make the McMansion more than the size.

It's not that any large house is a McMansion, and I don't think Kate's blog really states anything like that. The focus is on the overwrought, cartoony, jumbled messes of mishmashed styles and poorly-executed design concepts applied to giant and often cheaply-built faux-"classy" faux-"luxurious" homes that you see reflected in the posts there.

Nah, I don't do blogs... I actually have a tumblr and completely forgot it existed.

I've read through the blog. Some of her points are friggin funny and spot on.

That said, it's pretty easy to make fun of what other people are designing and building. Maybe at some point she'll post something that she's designed that has been successful in selling.

Seems like what gets missed in things like this is the fact that these builders and architects aren't just building whatever they want. They're building what people will pay for. Even a spec home is based on what the market is driving. And a good bit of people want to look like they have money when they don't.

Unfortunately, this is filtering down to the sea of boxy, slanted wood back houses being built in many of Fort Worth's newest neighborhoods.

Not a McMansion, but this picture from a real estate listing makes me wonder.

Another home has fallen to the bulldozer on Bellaire Circle at the corner of Ranch View.  There are a number of those old homes on the cul-de-sac end that have been torn down.

I'm still upset about the demo of that beautiful orange brick mid century modern house along there several years ago.  At least the houses (ive seen) that have been built recently have been very well designed.  I can only hope the same will be said for this site.
