I have been collecting Fort Worth history for 20 plus years - and I am going to open a museum to let the public view my collection. My cousin Jack White collected photos - I have gone a step further . I will keep you posted as to the open date.

Hi , my name is detail Larry , I am working on putting together a book of all of our schools here in Fort Worth . Not just public schools , but Universities and private schools . So any stories or photos , would be helpful . I have a lot of info , photos , paper and yearbooks fom my collection . Larry Oneal Collection , is the recovery of memoriablia of Fort Worth for the last 35 years . Anyone wanting to help me on the book is welcome .

Milton Brown , graduated Arlington Heights in 1925 , really was the person who first introduced Western Swing , he played at the Crystal Springs Dance Hall on white settlement road . I have a lot of info on him and his group and Sam Papa Cunningham . Just wondering if anyone has any info or photos of the band or the clubs they played in from that era .

Back in the late 1800s there was lots of newspapers , here are some that were here: Daily Reporter, Evening Mail , Fort Worth Gazette, Fort Worth German Gazette, Fort Worth Guide , Our New Era, Sanner W.R.& Company , The Southwest, Streets Monthly , He Texas Advertiser, Texas Commercial Reporter, Texas Live Stock Journal , Texas Public School, The "Colonel " , Two Edge Sword .

Charles A Harper , was fort Worths first lawyer , he came here from New Hampshire in 1849. During the early years college trained lawyers were not common , but our first school teacher , John Peter Smith came here in 1853 and studied law at nite , was admitted to the bar in 1860 . He was also one of the cities first surveyors !

John , I researched my records , and from a star telegram full page ad that Montgomery wards published , it's says Montgomery wards growth with Fort Worth : 801 grove street 1911 to 1924 , Chevrolet building west 7th street , July 24 , 1924 to July 1928 , then 2600 west 7th street sept 30 , 1928 to present . This was an ad in the Sunday oct 30 ,1949 paper, page 40 .

Here's another twist to the story and I have the documentation to prove it . There was a flood in 1922 , g m moved out and rented the building to Montgomery Wards . Wards moved into the building and operated until their building was completed in 1928 right across the street . How about that !

Chevy had a plant here also at 2600 west 7th street , in 1917 and 1918 they built thousands of a model "four ninety " ready to sell . Camp Bowie had lots of customers ready to buy . These cars sold for 490.00if you wanted lights and electric starter it was 60.00 extra.

The city of Fort Worth set up licenses for automobiles in 1904 , the first car registered was a Rambler and H.R. Cromer , who was a bicycle dealer owned it . The city also posted the speed limit at 10 miles per hour. Henry Lewis 19 , was the first traffic cop and he chased speeders on his bike from the 100 block of west 7th street , starting June 1, 1909 .

In 1918 two bothers James C and Will h Vernor , started Texas Motor Car Association , they made a car called The Texan ,3600 McCart was the address of the plant and the car sold for 1000.00

Sleuths , Treasure hunters : listen up. On Oct 3, 1952 there was a robbery at the Western Hills Hotel , there were three Cubans in town trying to buy Arms. So they hooked up with some of our local bad guys , and got ripped off. The bad guys thought they would never get caught because the cubans were here illegal , and buying hot guns. Little did they know the cubans did go to the cops and they had written down the serial numbers of all the bills. well one month later the cops staked out a road f m 730 , and caught thge bad guys digging up 128,000. of the money and some loot from other robberies. But the rest was never found !!!!! I have the newspapper accounts and other info , if anyone is interested . Go get em .
