It sounds like an awesome new company is moving its headquarters to Fort Worth.

I'm trying to figure out where on Main St. since it is not exactly user-friendly right now.

Not a terribly original name to start with. Do an online search for dream vision; probably half a dozen companies out there with that as a key part of their name. The press release uses several terms with very plainly nested inferences; I will be interested to see what they "unveil" Saturday.

More than likely, they will be a main tenant in one of the new Sundance Square Plaza buildings. That's what I'm betting on.

Uh, not so much. This is being put on by a group that's going to announce an effort to build a Disney-esque theme park resort in the area. Call me skeptical. I'm going to bet there's very little money behind it, much like the fake ski resort or the Earth Quest project in the Houston area (Google it). I suppose they may be setting up office space downtown, but I don't think this event is really about that.

Color me cynical, but I think JBB nailed it.

The weird thing to me is that they announce this on 5/27 in a Pennsylvania newspaper, with no announcements or marketing locally.  It just seems really poorly organized.

From the article,

The evening will feature “Celebration In The Sky”, the largest original fireworks symphony in the South West over the skies of Fort Worth. The DreamVision production will feature The Christ Chapel Symphony Orchestra live on stage and the DreamVision Voices of America.

So parsing this a little: the largest original fireworks symphony.  An original symphony written to be performed with fireworks?  Putting those qualifiers on it diminishes it somewhat.  The fact that it is being performed by a church "symphony orchestra" of probably mostly volunteer members makes me even more unimpressed.

My take is this:  Former DIsney officer hired by Christian group to develop "family entertainment" in Fort Worth.  In less than a year, the venture will fold.  The whole venture is probably a house of cards.

A google search on the headline shows the article in several "PR" publications, including a WSJ press release.

Hmm, I consider myself a bit of an "expert" on the amusement park industry, and have heard not even a rumor of a park here.

That said, I'm incredibly interested in whats going on here. DreamVision does not appear to be that large of a company, but damn they sure seem interested in putting on a show for whatever they are announcing. Such a large display to announce you are moving some employs into a little new building seems a bit much.

This quote struck me in particular.
“….I was inspired by the heart and soul of Walt Disney and hope in some way to honor his legacy as DreamVision reaches the world with hope, joy and inspiration. It is my goal to soon call Fort Worth The Family Entertainment Capital of The World.”

Has me very curious. Walt had the parks and the movies, which is this guy going for? Does he want to make a movie studio here? A theme park?

And even if all that is just fluff and folds, it still sounds like the fireworks show is going to be awesome. Fireworks are always awesome.

There's two types of Disney-esque theme parks.  Disney...and the ones that claimed to be Disney.

The best way to be compared to Disney is to actually do something.  The best way to be associated with Disney is to use his name frequently.  They've chosen the latter.

This whole thing sounds as fishy as when the good fairy cursed Prince Adam the preteen for not allowing her in the house in Beauty and the Beast?

Hello Disney?  Stranger Danger?!?!

Family Entertainment = Overpriced tickets, food, beverages, and souvenirs, long lines, hot sun, and converting either entire neighborhoods or greenspace into concrete.

We already have Six Flags.........

Please do not ruin my city with a theme park.

But you're right Austin55, fireworks are always awesome.

ETA: Looks like Fort Worth wasn't even their first choice.  Here's an article from 2011 that said they were moving to Dallas: http://www.christian...ewsdesk_id=1871

It is all a bit mysterious.

From thier youtube channel...

I also found some info out on there CEO from bloomberg,

Mr. Ron Logan serves as an Executive Vice President of Entertainment at DreamVision Studios, Inc. Mr. Logan served as Executive Vice President and Executive Producer for Walt Disney Entertainment Worldwide and the First President & Founder of Disney Theatrical Productions. From 1960 to 2001 Mr. Logan served as the Executive Vice President of the Walt Disney Company. Mr. Logan has been a Director of Alliance Media Group Holdings Inc., since April 2012. Mr. Logan serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida. Mr. Logan holds

a BA and MA from UCLA.

Their official Website makes some of the same mentions of Fort Worth being an entertainment "capital", and offers the CEO's same description, but with a different name.

Here is an article about them expanding is Asia.

Here is a pretty good animated short they did called "Hooked"

Further edits,

From the Star-Telegram

http://www.star-tele...s-for-fort.html

The Dream Vision Co. will stage a concert with fireworks near the convention center to announce that it will build a 80,000-square-foot studio and office facility and relocate its 30-employee headquarters here from Orlando.

The company has received some financial backing from a group of Fort Worth investors, said Doug Jennings, a real estate developer with the William C. Jennings Co. He said he met Silanskas just over a year ago and is working to firm up Dream Vision’s plans for its facility, which he expects to take about another six months.

Follow the money- they have financial backers who want them in Fort Worth.

I mentioned this to my wife, and said something about not having heard anything about it.  She pointed out that, considering the company has Christian ties, it is probably advertising on the Christian radio stations.  Does anyone here listen to them?  Has anything about this been announced on those stations?

I think a video production company is great news for Fort Worth (and thanks, Austin55, for downloading "Hook", the video was high quality and funny). This isn't a theme park, or is it?

I found an article earlier this week via Google with a direct reference to building a themed resort in the area.  I haven't been able to find it this morning.  Here's a quote from the S-T article linked above:

"Company officials, who include former Walt Disney Co. executives, say they will also unveil plans for “expansive development” of family-oriented entertainment, including films, amusement parks and resorts, and music."

Are you kidding?  Compared to where they're coming from (Orlando), this area is virgin territory, themepark-wise.

Orlando has 7 full size theme parks and another smaller one that is growing quite quickly.

Los Angeles (the area) has 5 full size parks and several smaller ones.

San Antonio has 2 full size theme parks.

SFOT is not a very big park considering the size of the Metro it is located in.
I think FW could very easily support it's own park. Not that I think that this is what this will be, but you know, i think it could.

I'm now very interested in 2 things

1-Who the investors are, and why they want DV here.

2-Where this 80,000 Sq foot studio will be located and what will it look like?

I found out through Facebook that one of the company members, Vince Silanskas, is in Fort Worth at the Omni.

Beverlyb, I am very impressed with this small company coming to Fort Worth.  It is surely the least offensive company a city could have and I am flattered they are coming here.  The fact that they are putting on a big party to kick it off is really very special.  There is only upside here.  No downside at all.  I will for sure be there at the event to show them Fort Worth cares.  Most of us do.

I know a few of the investors and it appears to be a smattering of Fort Worth high net worth people as opposed to a single large benefactor.  Evidently none of them thought this deal was for real at first, and the more people looked at it, the more impressed they became.  So I'm cautiously optimistic, and as one poster mentioned, there is only upside here.

Lots of pricey land. The lowest cost land in the metroplex is probably in southern Wise and eastern Parker County. What about a location south of Azle near SH 199 and a future ring-road tollway / metropolitan bypass roughly following FM 1187 and across Eagle Mountain Lake to connect to SH 170? Of course we will need a commuter rail link from there to Downtown Fort Worth.

Thinking about the Disney theme parks brings back something Andrés Duany said at the Bass Hall presentation a few years ago, that came from one of his books, something to the effect:

The Disney parks are idealized environments that subscribe to some of the major tenets of New Urbanism including designed streetscapes with interesting and varied architecture, walkable and extremely pedestrian-friendly streets, no cars and associated noise, smell, congestion, and danger, mass transit to the park; you never see your car for the whole day you visit.

It seems like the major new theme parks have attractions derived at least in part from hit movies; high-cost, wide target audience films with action, animation, and fast pace. Extrapolating from trends I would expect to see a theme park based solely or at least in part on Video Games, interactive 3D experiences with laser guns, loud noises, thumping repetitive non-vocal music themes, extremes in temperature and light, etc. There could be some fast roller-coaster rides to break things up, people probably would not pay $50 if there wasn't a range of things to do.

It is always fascinating how wrong businesses can be about demand. Not a science. Art. This one is pretty crazy Austin. The huge question is when do you stop throwing hard earned money into a project and walk away?

This morning I took my Saturday morning run downtown. Attempted to go towards the setup of the event but security would not let me within 2 blocks, even on the sidewalk. Normally other events let me run walk via sidewalk during setup. They had roads around grace capital grille etc closed off no clue where the valets will set up.

Yeah it was pretty weird downtown. I got stuck going thru there and you would have thought the Main Street Arts Festival was going on. They even had the Water Gardens closed with rent-a-cops at every entrance. Bizarre.

Some of the congestion today (6/1) has to do with graduations at the convention center, but the Dream Vision deal also a contributing part. I made the mistake of turning down Houston St.

Downtown is a happening place today. Hopefully it won't rain.

From the amount of street closures l think they expected a bigger crowd. Besides the owner of the company's speech about dreaming about a child being locked in a basement in Russia and then finding that child and adopting it, I guess they are legit. Sure was a lot of hoopla for a 2 theme parks out of the country and one "somewhere" in north Texas.

Since I am in education, I don't know anything about corporate launches. Maybe this is the norm, but I thought it was odd.

Entertainment wise I enjoyed The Drifters and the parts of the fireworks (I had started walking home when they started) that I saw were pretty.
