Closer than Frisco, but I'm a bit surprised they didn't pick a location further west.

I think it's such a destination store that exact location was much less important than cheap land.

And the location being where it is, you have to think that their people are looking at a map and thinking that the third and final local IKEA will be just perfect around I-35W and 287, in about 5 years' time.

I used to be excited about Ikea, but I've come to the decision that it's mostly a bunch of cheap junk and the faucet water at the "Dallas location" is the nastiest I've ever had. I would guess bottled water and soft drink sales are through the roof in the cafe.

You have to know what you're getting there going in. They do sell many cheap items that I'm not interested in, but some of their furniture is pretty high quality. I bought a TV stand there for a little over $100 that I really like. I was not impressed with their café the one time I ate there.

I need a new sofa; I want to get it at IKEA because they have sofas that are basically naked and you buy the cover separately. I have a dog that is a sofa dweller and he tends to tear up the sofa without even trying. I figure if he does that with an IKEA sofa I can just buy a new cover and not buy a whole new sofa.

I am also shocked that IKEA did not pick a location further West.  At LEAST Arlington.  If I were building one? I-30 and Eastchase Pkwy. I absolutely love IKEA.  Everything about it.  High quality for the cheap prices. And I like simple furniture.  If I were Mark Zuckerberg I would still have IKEA furniture.  I even like putting it all together.  My first condo in the Tower was completely furnished with IKEA stuff.  It all fit in the back of my pickup to bring it home and I had a houseful of furniture for like $800.  Still have one piece from that collection.  The rest? The lady that bought my condo bought all the IKEA furniture for the catalog prices. (She did not want to or was not able to put it together herself)

I am with you, Brian. If I were Zuckerburg, I would live in the catalog.

I am ok with the location. Straight shot on I-20 to Grand Praire.  Bonus for me, now I'll have an IKEA close to my parents and my in-laws. Great development for GP.

Seriously either Ikea has turned around thier products in recent years or the stereotype was never true, I love their furniture and when I get my own place I plan on furnishing it with Ikea products.

My suspicion is that people who complain about IKEA furniture either don't follow directions or are totally mecanically inept. Properly assembled, it holds up fine.

The groundbreaking for the IKEA Grand Prairie store took place today, per this press release.  However, I found this unexpected tidbit within:

"...and plans for a third Metroplex store were submitted last month to the City of Fort Worth."

The obvious guess for a location would be somewhere along 35W between 287 and 114 -- any other possible spots?

Ooh. Good catch.

Yeah, you've probably got the locale figured out. Other possible locations would be far west Ft Worth along I-30, and far south along CTP.

Well perhaps Ridgmar will go with the open air concept and IKEA will be an anchor.  Although, 35W up north might be an option as well.  However, there is always Waterside, Clearfork and Left Bank.

If Ridgmar could land it, it would be quite the coup.
