Well, looks like I'll be the first to post construction pics. Not much to see yet, of course, but work is progressing steadily. There's a good-sized hole in the ground at the site now, and some drilling of some sort is taking place (can you tell I'm no expert at identifying this stuff?):

The construction wall is being put up right now.
Normally they put up renderings of what is being built on the wall. This will be helpfull to conventioners who will see whats all this is about.
Just last week a out of town family wanted to shop at the outlet mall. I had to tell them what was the story after they tried to open the doors. Thier kids looked at me like I grabed thier candy. Boy I felt like a heal

It does appear to be very rocky. In one picture there appears to be a drill in the foreground. Is there any blasting being done or is this all just a big dig?

I'm glad to know they are going underground with some of the parking.

So far, it has just been a big dig.
Slight change in the big dig today. They've got concrete mixers in hole. It looks like they might be doing some retaining wall work. It's hard to see clearly through the clouds of dust coming up off the bull dozers.

1)Foundation completed
2)Steel for floors being put up
3)Steel frame completed for floors 1-9
4)Entire Steel frame Completed
5)Exterior of building completed
Just trying to get a since of the timeframe we are looking at for the progress of the construction.
Also trying to figure out when I can start to see construction from my office. I think I will start to see the construction from my office windows when it reaches about 10 floors.

Since I am not involved with the project, I can't safely guess on the timetable for the remainder of the building. I do have a prediction. I think that most of the building structure will be concrete. My guess is the only parts of the building with major steel work will be the spans over the ballrooms. Even then, depending on the design, those could be concrete.
Construction is also supposed to start in November on the 11 story parking garage between the hotel and the SBC/AT&T Building.

Great shot. Is the TCC building going to be razed for the parking structure?
I believe the parking garage is going to be north of the hotel construction site.

Already tired of the downward progress. But it looks like we are close! Exciting times for Fort Worth!
Well, downward progress has slowed. It looks like they've reached their target depth on the north end of the hole and are now working on the south end.
I still can't figure out how they get the last of the material and the equipment out of the whole when they are done.

Actually the answer is quite easy. They will excavate all of the site and get it prepared for foundation work, but they will leave two ramps of dirt and rock at the southwest and southeast corners. These ramps are already in place and they are now serving as the way to haul out the rock. The next step will be the drilling of piers to a depth in the rock that will support the 500' tall building. After the piers are drilled, crane foundations will be constructed, the cranes erected, then permanent retaining walls will be built on the perimeter, a slab on the lowest level will be poured, and columns will start to rise out of the basement. This work will probably start on the north side of the site. As this is progressing, it will move to the south. Eventually one of the ramps will be removed and excavation will be completed around it. More of the building will be built and finally, as the basement work moves toward the last ramp, smaller excavation equipment can be used and the trucks will park on the street. Eventually, the equipment will be small enough that it could be lifted out with the cranes. Then the foundation work will be very close to the old ramp and the building could be built around it. By this time all of the equipment will be moved in and out by the cranes.

Will it be the same ol' FW outlining,or something similar to The Tower?

I know its too early to say,but I was looking at the rendering AGAIN,what nightime lighting scheme might we see?
Will it be the same ol' FW outlining,or something similar to The Tower?
Personally I would like to see a lighting scheme unique to the Omni itself. (Please no green neon outlining.) I would like to see some ground-based illumination of the base of the building.

I have updated construction photos posted at the beginning of the thread now. It appears the construction is moving about the way that I described that it would previously.
They have drilled and are drilling piers on the north end of the site at the current time. A tower crane base has been installed along with a few sections of the crane at the north end, as well. It will be orange. The southeast ramp has been removed now and more excavation is taking place at that corner. This leaves a smaller pile of rock in the center of the site and a ramp leading up to 14th and Houston on the southeast side of the site.

Watching this hole get dug has been fascinating as a process, but pretty dull to watch. Things seem to move so slowly.
On an only slightly related matter. The city appears to be re-orienting the Throckmorton & Lancaster intersection. Throckmorton now turns back to the west a little at 14th street (the southern boundary of the Omni) and appears to now be a perpendicular intersection.
