Sounds like an interesting building for the area, and just what the neighborhood needs.

From Fort Construction's news page

Fort Construction is proud to partner with Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County on the completion of their mixed-use affordable housing development.

Union Gospel Mission is dedicated to ending homelessness in our community, as well as helping the poor and underserved. Their programs offer love, hope and respect to those in need.

Vineyard on Lancaster will be located at 1314 East Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth. It will total 115,990 SF and feature 104 multi-family apartments in two buildings.

Union Gospel Mission is securing a grant for this development, so we expect to get started later this year. The goal is to begin occupancy by December 2018.

We would like to thank the amazing people at Union Gospel Mission for the opportunity to work with them. And we thank them for all they do in our community.

What are those things sticking out over some of the windows?  Just cosmetic or do they actually have a purpose?

This should break ground in coming months. Schwarz-Hanson is the architect.

That address maps to the music instrument warehouse (can't remember the name). I'm looking on streetview and see that the sign has been removed from the building and there is a banner advertising Fort Worth Can. Is the warehouse going to be demolished? I didn't realize that Flora Brewer had sold the building.

No I believe it is the block bounded by Lancaster, Cypress, Kennedy and Chambers.

More info from Schwarz Hanson

Two new five story mixed-use buildings include 104 units of affordable, supportive apartment housing to be built at the Union Gospel Mission campus near Downtown Fort Worth. The facility will have retail space, a health clinic, onsite laundry rooms, community room, outdoor green space amenities, and both structured and surface parking. This project is currently under construction and is planned for opening in December, 2019.

My thoughts- I think the facade is a little fussy. That shade of green is atrocious. But very happy to have this type of project, it is needed and will be a wonderful community asset.

I've visited some of the modern "mission" buildings on East Lancaster in connection with pro-bono legal assistance and welcome this further revitalization of the area.

Evidently Union Gospel plans another set of apartments to the West of the campus at 1111 East Lancaster, right up on the interchange.

Not familiar with the rental rates Union Gospel Mission charges, but I hope these apartments provide much needed housing for low-income people, even the homeless.

johnfwd... that is their demographic. They help to get homeless and other low income people on their feet and on to becoming productive citizens. They do great work.
