Fort Worth native worked with Ornette Coleman, Ruth Brown, LaVerne Baker, Lionel Hampton, The Coasters, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Holly, John Lennon, Duane Allman, Joe South, and opened for the Beatles at Shea Stadium.

Great show on PBS' Independent Lens about the music scene that developed in Muscle Shoals Alabama in the late 50's and thrived in the 1960's and '70's:

Oh, yes Fort Worth related: King Curtis is quoted as saying his young guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, is going to do well in the music world (or something to that effect)

 

Maybe someone should look into a similar documentary about the music that has come out of our fair city over the years...
