About half way between Fort Worth and Houston if one travels the "back" way on Highway 6 from Waco through Bryan-College Station is Calvert, Texas -- an historically significant Texas town which has undergone considerable restoration. Here's a link to their CofC site:

Nice shots. I did some mapping work on the proposed highway expansion between Calvert and Hearne a couple years back. Never got a chance to go down there. I think one of the tracts we adjoined was a WWII German POW Camp, but I could be mistaken.

The masonary work on the Parish house is cool, as well as that round element on the front porch. I like the way the fireplace flows around the window.

We've always used that way between Houston and Fort Worth. Much faster than I-45. All the little cities along there have beautiful historical houses. The masonry on the Parish house is just stunning.
Watch your speeding the whole way on Hwy 6. There were no less than 11 county mounties and DPS troopers on the Sunday we moved up here between Houston and Waco. Years ago I made it from Richmond and Hillcroft to the Jack in the Box on South Cooper in four hours and 40 minutes in my little red Acura. Hell it takes you two hours just to get through the Woodlands on 45, nevermind Corsicana.

Marlin before the bypass was built was a pleasant drive. We drive through there every once in awhile to break the monotony. Interesting railroad trestle their if I remmeber correctly.

Here's another home from Calvert -- this one painted barn red! The owner claims that once he repainted the adjacent barn this red color, he was stuck with painting the house the same.
That day was cloudy; this picture doesn't really do justice to how striking that place looks in the bright sunshine.

The trim should really be painted. White would look good.
