Driving back to Austin from FW/D this weekend, I stopped off in Waco to visit my alma mater and took some pics. Hope you enjoy the brief tour of Bear Country...

Very nice, Ramjet. What brought you to Baylor?

Just been there once, for a graduation in 1989. (So long ago the school was new.) I sure always think back to the Branch Davidians and wondering how it changed the whole aura at Baylor. (1992?) A great school for sure. That should be about the last thing I think of when I think of Baylor. I always think I would like Waco. I would like it better if I-35 was not clogged to the max. I always think when I retire I would spend a few days in a Hotel there and walk myself silly.

It is a nice campus. My sons went there for music camp several times so I've tramped around the campus a bit. My youngest son was accepted there but chose to go to Wesleyan.

I grew up Baptist, so Baylor was a bit predestined for some of us. Had a great time there and received a good education. Waco gets a bad rap, but really has some nice and interesting things about it. A tornado hit downtown Waco in the '50's and I don't think it ever quite recovered (say, like downtown Fort Worth did after the tornado of 2000). Unfortunately, Waco is associated with the Branch Davidian debacle, whose encampment was nearby but not actually in Waco. The Baylor "bubble" is notorious, so I don't think the event likely had much impact on anything there.
