Planning a 1 mile, 5k and Half Marathon run and a 12, 30 and 50 mile ride. I'm planning to do the 50!

I'm amazed that it's going to be ready by then, especially given the state of the roadway (or lack thereof) between the river and Montgomery. I wonder if they plan to open it in phases.

Wow thanks for sharing this. Sounds like a lot of fun, always wanted to bike on a multilane highway. 

Also shocked it will be done so soon. I'll believe it when I see it I guess.

No details on the website.  The "run" part of this is obvious.  What's the "ride" part?  Bicycling?

They will be loading more details on the website in the coming weeks. They had a booth at the Cowtown Marathon Expo, so it's gonna happen, they are just in the early stages of getting it setup.

Apparently this May 10 event is going to be along the southern part of the Trailway--i.e. from Bryant Irvin-Hulen area south into Johnson County (I guess).  Details don't mention the northern part--i.e., from Bryant Irvin-Hulen area to downtown.  And, I wouldn't think it possible by May 10, anyway, having observed that the northern part is largely unfinished.  I haven't seen the southern part lately, is it ready for the May launch?

NTTA has stated multiple times that the entire CTP will open simultaneously. The length of the CTP is ~ 28 miles and they are going to have a 50 mile bike ride (25 out and 25 back). So this makes sense that the start line will be near Edwards Ranch Road and avoid that portion where the CTP connects to I-30. Might be interesting to see the peloton try to merge onto 30 on the way back in however...

it would be real hard to ride the CTP between I-30 and University as the bridges there are just bridge supports at this time as it parallels Vickery.

This event isn't until May 10th. I wouldn't recommend trying it right now.

I am considering this, but I hope riding 25 miles one way from Cleburne towards downtown will be an option. 50 miles seems like too much for me.

You could train.  There's plenty of time for that.

Oops, I just realized that I have a wedding to attend on May 10th.   Hopefully I will be able to attend both!

After reading the details and the mayor's message, my understanding is that the bicycling will not be a marathon race, but the running will be.  That's good, because I might want to leisurely ride my bike on the parkway that day, but don't really want to race anybody.  Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

I think the bike part won't be a certified distance event like the running part will. Just like most of the bike rallies in the area- Goatneck, Peach Pedal etc...

The bike ride is less than three weeks away.  I'm planning on participating in this once in a lifetime opportunity, but there's a chance I might not.

 

Disappointed that there won't be an option to start in Cleburne. I want to ride the entire length, but there's no way I can ride 50 miles.

 

 

 

The bike ride starts at 10am. I'm thinking we should have a forum meet-up that morning before the ride. Anyone agree?

I think we can try it.  I also know a lot of people from the FWBA will either be riding or running a rest stop.  Some will be doing both.

What?! The website says that you can't sign up for the bike ride anymore because there are too many entries?!

Yes, they had a very limited number of people they wanted on the road, so registration closed quickly.  I didn't keep up with my messages, and I procrastinated, so I'm out in the dark, also.  Since this is limited to only a small number, there are probably very few forum members attending, so I guess it won't be good opportunity for a forum meet, except for the ones who were successful in registering.  The Fort Worth Bicycling Association is still running a rest stop, so if I want to still be a part of the event, I can sit out on the roadside and do public relations for the club and for cycling.

That's messed up.  Do other bike ride events/marathons have participant limits? I would love to give CTP my $30.

I missed out when it filled initially. Then they reopened it and added 300 more slots and I got in that time. I think it's limited to less than 2k riders. Kinda crazy considering the course is a simple out and back. All of the other local rides like Goatneck and Peach Pedal have no limits and crazy routes requiring tons of volunteers and police.

Why did they have to make this such a formal event, anyway?  Just announce to the public that a designated strip of the parkway (say, from Bryant Irvin to an end point a few miles south of Fort Worth) is open all day for anyone who wants to bike or walk it; that there will be water/rest stations along the route; and an emergency vehicle or two just in case.  Instead they make it an exclusive marathon!  I thought the idea was to see what it's like on the parkway without being in a car.  Save the bike and running marathons for some other venue!

Dylan, all of the pay rides that I have done do not limit riders.  I have been told that the NTTA was really worried about liability and because they had never done anything like this before, they were overly cautious.  They have so many rules set up for this thing, it is not going to be as enjoyable as it could be. 

 

I still want to participate and I can certainly help with the FWBA rest stop, but I will have to be there from 9 until 3.  I will also enjoy meeting and greeting the cyclists.  Every time that I have worked a rest stop on pay ride, I have really enjoyed the day.  However, I'm not riding near as much as I have in years past, due to weather, work, and maybe a little burn out.  Since the weather is improving, I am wanting to get out more to ride.  So, if I volunteer and I still want to ride, I will have to go home and then get on the bike after working the rest stop until 3.  It's a good thing we are in Daylight Saving Time, but I have a tendency after doing this kind of thing to go home and become a couch potato.  Even if I do force myself to go out and ride, it will probably be shorter, because of the the sun going down.

I am thouroughly upset this morning. The past few days, I have been trying to get them to send me a transfer form of someone not able to attend. Yesterday morning, there was hope, as I got the email of someone whose friend couldn't attend - but it was for a run and not a ride. I sent a reply back to CTP Run Ride, and didn't get a reply back. I sent another this morning, and was told that at this point, my only option is to go there and hope I get an early enough number for a no show spot. There are probably hundreds of others trying to do the same thing!

 

And to think, I could be riding on the tollway for the only time in my life this morning if there was no freaking participant limit.

I would say the traffic going in this morning is a pretty good indication of why there's a participant limit. Traffic on 30 going west was backed up in all 3 lanes to Summit. Access to the race site isn't exactly great and, if there was no limit to the number of participants, it would take until noon to get everyone trough the start.

I was told that it took some people up to 45 minutes to cross the starting line.  This is similar to what happens up in Wichita Falls for the HHH.  However, they have 14,000 or so and this ride had less than 2,000.  Also, I looked on the website last night, and because of parking issues, they requested that most people ride their bicycles to the start, if it was possible.
