Just a few skyline shots I got yesterday from the top of the Oil Derrick at Six Flags. It was a really clear day but my camera refused to focus very well at 10x zoom and I didn't have a tripod. Some of the pics are a bit over-edited, I think you can tell which ones...

Downtown Dallas (and a corner of Superman):
Another pseudo-pan from downtown to Cityplace:

Very nice. I worked there for 6 years and I loved going up there to check out the view on clear days. You could also get some great views of incoming storms.

Nice pic's!
See folks. Wouldn't you like to buy a high-rise condo in that area with those views? When THEY come.

I always hated that view of downtown fort worth from the oil derrick. It makes it look like we only have 3 tall skyscrapers. To some first time visitors to the park (and to the dfw area), it's their first view of dtfw and not much of a great first impression. All they gotta do is move to the side where downtown dallas is and get a awesome view. Seems to me that side where the most people gather to check out the sights.

I doubt anyone thought about the placement of the downtown buildings to make the skyline appear bigger from certain locations, but you are right, it does appear that way. However, if you look carefully, you can see that The Tower is blocked by Carter+Burgess Plaza and there are two City Center buildings. Another thing Fort Worth can't help is that the ground level is over 100 feet higher than the ground level at the base of the Oil Derrick. There are also hills between downtown Fort Worth and Arlington blocking more buildings. I noticed that you could almost see down to the ground looking to Dallas, and there are no major hills between there and Arlington. You can see the small remants of the Chalk Hills near Hampton Rd. and I-30 in Jonny's picture. By the way, ground elevations in downtown Dallas are approximately 100 feet lower than the ground at the Oil Derrick.
