I am a Fort Worthian in exile in Albany, New York. Albany is one the oldest cities in North America - site of the present city was settled by the Dutch in 1609. It is the capital of New York. It is really very charming and has some extraordinary architecture. Thought I would take folks on a quick tour...

Empire State Plaza - built by Governor Nelson Rockefeller in the 1970's because he was embarrassed by Albany when the Queen of the Netherlands came to visit him...

I went to college in Saratoga and became acquainted with Albany. It really does have some beautiful buildings and neighborhoods. Personally, I hate Empire Plaza and all the other Rockefeller era Le Corbusier garbage. The state assmebly and city hall are really something to behold. Albany's center city definitely has a different feel than many American cities. It actually reminds me of Georgetown, but not as ritzy and much much colder.

Thanks for the tip, Safly. It took me a minute to get the Cingular reference, but I do and I'm laughing! I added a description of each of the buildings as recommended. Lastly, I agree that at first glance, the Empire State Plaza comes across as ugly. But over time, it really grows on you as this magnificent example of a utopian vision from the '60's and '70's. The Plaza is also dotted with some significant modern art - because Governor Rockefeller was a fanatic collector of modern art. In any case, there is no place I've ever been quite like Albany. And I think few Texans have ever been here or even know of it. It's a bit isolated sitting in a valley on the Hudson River between the Catskill and Adirondack mountains about 150 miles north of New York City. Go to website for more. Thanks for the feedback...

So I have a new job - in Philadelphia. When I get there I will take some pics to share the architecture - like Albany and Fort Worth - very unique and underappreciated.
