Who has NOT been to a Fort Worth Cats Game?

Anyone who HAS NOT been to a Cats game yet, reply to this topic and tell me why. You are flat missing out. Tell me the reason you've been putting it off, and we'll use peer pressure to send you. And, yes, you are REQUIRED to reply to this thread if you haven't been to a Cats game.
Note to fellow Cats game attendees: I'll start a topic just for us where we can all tout the greatness that is La Grave Field.

Something just doesn't seem right about your post. Too giddy I think. Especially for a night at La Grave and an Ind./ Texas League baseball game.
Oh well, go Willie Nelson!

Am a big fan of him though. But you are right about the "no money fun" atmos at La Grave. Perfect for FW.

This is off topic - but I refuse to set foot in Ranger Stadium again until something JUST is done to Kenny Rogers. That man should be kicked out of Major League Baseball. I loved Dale Hanson's rant about Kenny the other night on the news. Dale better watch his back though or Kenny is going to come after him.

Agreed on the MLB and Kenny Rogers bit. what's up with Kenny Rogers these days. One is a country singin washed up drunk. The other is an anger mgmt. candidate deserving a good Indonesian public caning.
Did not hear or watch dale Hansen and his stuff (nor do I care to), but Newy "New-Munn" Scruggs was a chump with his radio broadcast about how this IS the ONLY story worth talkin about. What a JOKE that guy is, when will he finally do good and leave to another market. He is a mark if I ever seen one.
Newy, if ya readin this. Quit fuelin the fire and become an unopinionated reporter for once! The world's airwaves are already junked up with one Ahmad Rashaad. We don't need two. I'm out .

Shooting off model rockets would be about the same experience.
They are just the Cat's, so FW outsiders really don't identify FW with the Cat's team.
If you have youngins, then it could be a good "hit" with them. But if you are a passionate baseball fan then you would probably want to see some MLB affiliated minor league teams.
Like when I grew up in SA. I went to every other SA Dodgers turned SA Missions game. These were the then LA Dodgers organization's rising stars, all getting their lumps in at the AA minor league level experience. Before you knew it you just saw Mike Scioscia get called up to catch an LA game, or a Pedro Martinez get called up to join his older bro in LA, or even watch a younger Lance Berkman and Brandon Larson (#1 Draft Pick opponents) hit some pre game homers out of the park. I would even see mobs of people trying to get Gordie Hershisers post game autograph just because of his brother's (Orel) fame while in LA.
Weird stuff but very passionate fans. The Cat's don't quite have that history just yet. I won't even mention what Fernando "Mania" did to that town when he would make an appearance. I could remember as a youngin my Mom telling me to run down those bleacher steps to get a certain retired player's (whom I didn't know of) autograph on my glove. Hurried down there, didn't think nothing of it, asked for the autograph and hurried back to my seat for the inning to start. Few seasons passed by and I later found out that autograph was from the GREATEST LH PITCHER in Dodgers history, the great Sandy Koufax.
But that is the difference between what you will experience at La Grave field from any other MLB affiliated minor league franchise field. The H of Famers and popular professional athletes of the past will always return back home to support the organizations up and coming talent and home crowds. The Cat's just don't have that, not for now.
I do apologize for Chan Ho Park (former SA Mission P) being built up by our town, thinking he would be worth a darn at the ML level (L.A.). Sorry.

Clearly you haven't been around LaGrave much. While the rebuilt team is only a few seasons deep, the Cats from yesteryear who went on to the majors very much DO come around a lot.

Ah, I have. And I played for an Ind. League/Semi-Pro team with teammates from the Carolina and Texas Leagues and a former MLB player (Ron Jones, Phillies)back in the days.
The likes of Duke Snider, Maury wills, and Sparky Anderson are what the Cat's bring in every year to try and pull some pub. Most of these former players don't even remember when they played here, having to constantly be reminded by their PR staff before every press conference or interview. I am an admirer of these three gentlemen, and the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, but only a handful come out to see em. Maury wills being the exception because he is very active in the ILeague day to day operations. A Former Dodger great (a base stealing king) is always respected in my view.
Sorry Jehnnay. But comparing seeing Sparky Anderson (known for being a great manager), Duke Snider (a short term HR king), and Maury Wills (a great SB player, but known more for other personal ordeals) with seeing a Sandy Koufax, Mariano Duncan, Steve Sax, Burt Hooton (TX), Pedro Guerrero, Pedro Martinez, Fernando Valenzuela, Orel Hershiser, Dennis Eckersley, Claude Osteen, and a Steve Garvey. is just too funny.
Come on buddy, come on.
I still respect the players, but they just are not movin up. That is how this league is being developed.

I was hoping back in 2001 (When the Cat's played at TCC) that the La Grave ballpark would a have been built up against the waters by West TrinityRiver, between 7th St. and Henderson Ave., or betwix the 7th St. bridge and Lancaster bridge. Both would have served a better place for a ballpark than N. Main area.
IMHO.

I really enjoy the minor league game. I also like high-school football more than pro football. For me, having a good place to hang out, watch a little baseball and not be the least bit concerned about whether or not the stadium, team, parking or city live up to anyone else's standards is great.
Cats baseball is just a good time. It isn't anything else and doesn't pretend to be.

We also saw part of the Dallas Baptist tourney a year or two ago at LaGrave Field--TCU/DBU/Oklahoma State and another school. Not a bad seat in the house.
Speaking of minor league baseball stories, during the baseball strike of 1994 me and my then-girlfriend-now-wife needed to see some baseball and took a day trip to Mike Carter Field in Tyler, TX to see the now-defunct Tyler Wildcatters of the old Texas-Louisiana League (now the Central League in which the Cats play in). A spectaculalry scenic setting...right in the middle of the gorgeous pine trees of East Texas. It's an older field that's been expanded a few times. I think the park hosts high school games now. A real gem in the history of the great game in my opinion. The red box seats behind the dugouts are from Arlington Stadium. I think the big set of aluminum bleachers beyond the dugouts on each line were added when the T-L league came to Tyler.

I was a huge Fire fan. Their games were a lot of fun. Especially once they moved the first and last thirds of the season to Will Rogers. A loud building, even when it's only half full (3000 or so). Games at the Convention Center don't have the same atomosphere--it's a nice building and all but the seats seem a bit further from the action and it's not nearly as loud, even with a full house (10,000 or so).Cats games are fun. We like sitting in the left field bleachers. The employees are friendly and it's a neat atmosphere. We sat in the front row behind third base one time and had to sorta look over the dugout (it was an interesting perspective...sorta like sitting on the floor at UTA's Texas Hall...the action is more or less at eye-level). But go up a row or two and the sightlines are very good between 1st and 3rd base.

I've seen a lot of hockey games...time to reminisce on the Fire...The Fire games were awesome..... FIGHT...thats all i remember..hehehe
I'll never forget one night in which Fort Worth and San Antonio got into it and there were like 240 penalty minutes. Seemed like the penalty boxes were full all night...not much 5-on-5 hockey at all. The game took forever to play with all the whistles but the crowd was totally into it.
I recall the first season or two the Fire had a player named Ron Aubrey...he didn't have a lot of skill...mostly an enforcer, totally fearless, tough guy for sure. Every game it seemed he got into a fight. Those first couple of years the Fire didn't win many games but opposing teams knew it was gonna be a physical game for sure.
Stephane LaRocque, who was on the Fire championship team and played for the Brahmas a year or two was a center who didn't back down from anyone. Probably the toughest player I've ever seen in minor league hockey. He'd camp out in front of the goalie waiting for a pass and if anyone tried to move him out of the crease area or if anyone picked on one of the Fort Worth scorers, he'd drop the gloves in a heartbeat. Murray Hogg was a huge defenseman in that same era on those teams and was just as tough. As much as his physical play would get the crowd and his team into the game emotionally, sometimes Larocque would take penalties that wound up costing the team a goal or two though...

I'll go ahead and be someone who supports the Cats. I don't care about the history, the player's odds of hitting it big, or a chance to get an autograph. I like going to the games. I enjoy sport for the sake of sport. I like relatively cheap beer, salted peanuts, mediocre hotdogs and the sumer evening breeze. I like watching little kids getting impressed by baseball players because the kids don't know enough to look down on the players for not playing.....
Your right it's great for the KIDS.
Then why spend your dollar at a Cat's game when you can watch an NABA game in any part of the metro. Do you watch the area Spanish league baseball games too? Not REALLY much of a fan of the "sport for sake of sport", now are you?
I agree with Roller hockey leagues. It is a blast.

You know what, I pretty much got out of this forum due to safly's systematic shutdown of BOTH topics I created about Cats' games, but as I sat at La Grave Thursday night watching the Cats in their league championship series against San Angelo, I just started getting pretty ticked. It takes a sad, sad, little man to not be able to enjoy minor league baseball. It's a great game, the facility is beautiful, the Cats are very successful this year, I could go on and on. Unfortunately, very little discussion was allowed because someone felt the need to yank the brake and insult those who DO enjoy the games.
For the record, tonight's game will decide the CBL champion, and my money is on the Cats. There is a very good chance I will be out there.

For all those who aren't interested in random, off topic babbling, I did attend last night's Cats game and witnessed the Fort Worth Cats championship clinching win. I took tons of pictures, and even got a request to pass along some of my pictures to one of the players. It was a great game, and all the fans there had an incredible night.

We've been to several Cats games and I adore them. It's a real old-style "hometown" atmosphere, like a small town state fair right out of the 1940s. Tons more fun than the Rangers or any other MLB team, in my opinion. After 1 Cats game, I swore I'd never attend a Rangers game again - and I haven't. Cats pros: Short drive, good prices on tickets and consumables, fun atmosphere, no horrible lines for the restroom, and you don't have to park and hike 3 miles. I enjoy baseball for the game itself and the atmosphere, and for that, you simply cannot beat the FW Cats.
Oh, and I should add that I don't have children.
For anyone who has not been, I highly recommend checking out a game. Well worth it!

Even college games of all kinds has more of an edge to it.
Oh so true. But I would recommend to everyone on going out there and supporting those guys. I have gotten to known a few of them over the years, and as immature as they may seem, they do care for the game and how they present it to the little ones. Big heart those guys have, big heart. When are they gonna come up with some H of F'ers Old Timers game at La Grave? Oh wait, there are only 3 left. Nah, but they should try and get the MLB H of F'ers to travel on down here to FW and play an exhibition at ol La Grave. that's the heart of minor league baseball, fanfare. I can see it now, Reginald Martinez Jackson facing off with ol Robert Feller. BOWTIE! Has Nolan Ryan been to La Grave? You'd think he would have stayed over here to enjoy some black angus beef and give an autograph session.
I too am tired of FW being a minor-minor league city.

I agree with you completely, and the Cats certainly offer some attractive selling points such as the ones you mentioned. Sure it would be cooler if Fort Worth had a major league team, but I'd rather celebrate what we have instead of belittle what we have and bitch about what we don't.
