Don't think these are new to anyone but I will post them still the same. Some great skyline shots here!
Enjoy!
John...I am familiar with all of these. A couple of them are in
my UTA collection. Mind saying where you got them? Thanks.
By the way, do you know the photographer for the one of
the West Freeway looking toward downtown? I cannot remember
where I got it. I even have a vague remembrance that I took
one just like it for the Turnpike. At least I used this for them,
and can't remember where I got it.

Jack, this one was a Star Telegram photo. I do not know who the photographer was. I think all of these are UTA-SC.
As for where I got them, I selected most of the FW photographs that are used to decorate the halls of our office. While going through countless photos, I selected some for my own collecting. I love FW and have lived here all my life!
My Dad was a contributor to Caleb Pirtle's book back in 1980 (Ft. Worth The Civilized West) and had some of these photo decorating his Ft. Worth office.
Also, my Grandfather was Deputy Sherrif of Ft. Worth back in the 30's and then an employee of The City of Ft. Worth for 30 plus years. He had several of the classic downtown photos from the 20's (all known and published). They hand proudly over my desk.
Some things I honestly can not recall where or how I got them. Oh, yes...there is always eBay. I just got my two most recent Bill Wood photos there!
I also collect old FW post cards too.

and from Christmas (early 60's pre-SLC forcast sign)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I liked the Christmas Tree in Burk Burnett Park over Sundance Square!
and another one from Burk Burnett (circa 1960)

I think I do, too. Of course, I also think the old layout of Burnett Park was cooler than the current one (though I do like the current one). Let's get the movement going - Christmas tree in Burnett Park for '06!
Looking at those old pics from Burnett Park, with the old layout, the Electric Building and the Neil P. Anderson, and with the Medical Arts building still rising over the site, it almost looks European in a way. Don't know how to explain it, but it looks very cool.
I still love our current Burnett Park (even though I'd sell a kidney to get the Medical Arts building back). I'm really thrilled that the Burnett Park/7th Street Canyon area is starting to pick up, with the Electric Building apartments and the Neil P. condos. Now that we've got Sundance Square, it's great to see other parts of downtown starting to develop again - Burnett Park area, Throckmorton (with The Tower, the Tandy project, and things of that nature), 714 Main, Lancaster, etc.

You and I have very simular passion. I liked the old BB park better myself, but I do like the way it is now.
You know, The Electric Building, with a little cosmetic work, could look a lot like the MA!
By the way. I look up at your building everyday. I work in the 500 building at 13th and Lamar. A friend of mine also works in your building at Americredit.

I love the Electric Building. I think it tends to get forgotten a bit amidst all the other cool old buildings in downtown, especially with its more famous and elaborate neighbor across the street (the Neil P.). All it needs is a good powerwash around the top, IMHO.
Yeah, I feel a bit conflicted - I work in Burnett Plaza, and yet I will forever hate it for what it did to the Medical Arts Building. I guess it's not going anywhere, though. I don't think it's the ugliest building in town, though. At the right time of day, on the western side, it can look semi-interesting, and almost (*almost*) not unattractive.
With a bit of luck, I'll be moving in to a loft at the Electric Building next month.

Yes! Yes! You know, our office (Nader Design Group) just moved into the old Hollywood Theatre lobby. What a sense of history just working in that space! I'm trying to dig up some neat old photos to blow up, frame, and display.

I have a question. Someone, I believe on the old Forum, put up a posting a few years ago about walking in the old theatre lobby one day and being able to access some of the other public areas of the old theatre as well as the old projection room, which were still intact.
Have you been able to see any of these areas and would you be able to describe what is or is not still intact? Are these areas part of your company's lease or do you have explicit permission to access those areas?
I think it would be very enjoyable and informational for Forum readers if it would be at all possible for someone to photograph any surviving elements of the old theatre and post them here.

Way cool! Please come down and introduce yourself sometime! I have had the pleasure of meeting one of the apartment tennants who happens to live in the apartment directly over the Hollywood Theatre lobby. She said she believes her space was once the old theatre manager's apartment, or something like that.
Good luck with your move!

Hi Dismuke,
Yes, I have been able to see some of the old areas of what remains of the old theatre, including the old balcony lobby space, the balcony restrooms, old projection room, area under the balcony seating, old wall safe, old janitor's sink/closet, very narrow iron spiral staircase leading up to upper storage (?), etc.
No, these areas are not part of our lease space. They are closed off completely from the public. It is truly a time warp up there! Major dust too!! Two members of our staff and I were lucky enough to have a private tour of this space by the building's maintenance supervisor. He toured us through on our lunch hour and it was very dusty. And there are no lights or electricity. We had to use our flashlights. Boy, talk about creepy but soooooo very facinating! Seriously, it was a total time warp!
Yes, I was able to take some photos. I do not have a way to host them, however. I'd be happy to email these to someone if they wouldn't mind posting for them for me.
I really wish someone fabulous would come along and donate a ton of money to have this old theatre preserved for future generations, even if it isn't used as a theatre. Just to keep it from deteriorating further! Wouldn't that be great?!!

Mary Bess,
E-mail the pics to me at kevin@atomicglee.com and I'll be thrilled to host them for you. I'd be excited to see them, myself!
