I have mixed thoughts about this new wave of tax cutting, whether it's ad-valorem property or other forms.  On the one hand, yes, it would be great to get a Tarrant County property tax bill that doesn't make one scream.  On the other hand, tax cutting means less revenue to fund public education, health care, roads, highways, and bridges, among the various vital programs that depend on the government's purse strings.  Here in Texas, we are traditionally anti-government. And so we may think that growth in the private sector will step in to indirectly support education and infrastructure improvements.  When I hear about how much the power-ball lottery generates massive ticket sales when it gets up into the mega-billions, I think maybe that kind of money is helping offset the loss in tax revenue.  Is it?
