From Google earth, here's some before and after comparisons.

Radioshack/TCCTR between 2/27/2001 and 4/10/2013

yiOj9PX.gif

Sundance, same timeframe.

nFW9hp6.gif

Cultural district in the same timeframe.A lot of changes still to come here to.

iNrA2dg.gif

Lancaster Avenue, same time, same comment as above. More ought to be on the way.

1dEl7WW.gif

Same as above with clearfork. This already looks substantially different, with the hospital and highway completed and the apartment construction underway.

d1D17UC.gif

I have a few more in mind I'll do when GE updates to 2015 graphics, for example the Montgomery Ward/Linwood/Left Bank area, Trinity Uptown, etc. If you have any others you'd like me to do let me know! I can toss together real quick.

Interesting to look at.  But the flickering back and forth is so fast I find it difficult to focus on any particular site change (I don't have ADD, fortunately).  Otherwise, I'd like to see a future pre- and post- look at the sites of the Chisholm Trail Parkway project and the TCU campus expansion and renovation project.

Austin55,

This is really cool!  Could you present a before and after comparison of the Westcliff area, say centered on the Westcliff Shopping Center?

It might be better, if possible, to make the toggling between the before and after pictures a manual operation rather than automatically switching between the two.  Just a suggestion.

Thanks!

If you want to go back ever further, you can go to www.historicaerials.com, where you can compare any two years where they have aerial photography by sliding or dissolving from one image to another.  The unfortunate thing is that the aerials are not as high resolution as Google's, but they still tell a story.

Well done, but the switch between frames is too fast for my older eyes.

Good job, Austin. There is even newer imagery available on Bing maps (choose aerial instead of bird's eye). I'm guessing that it's from April or May 2014, as the CTP looks to be mostly constructed but not yet open to traffic.

Oh wow, those are very recent. Cassidy looks nearly finished, pretty recent for sure. Only issue is I it does'nt have built in historic pics, but I could try lining them up.

For sure! Some of the shots are'nt lined up very well, but I can try to make a few from it. It also has the annoying waterrmarks.

I'll do Westcliff for sure. I have the timer set at 1400 milliseconds, I could certainly bump that up. 2400 maybe? I'm not sure of a way to make manual possible though.

Can do! See the above reply about time.

The two remarkable visual transformations are the TCU stadium and Sundance Square Plaza.  What a difference the plaza made to downtown!  I wish more of our bland parking lots would be replaced.

Great before and after photo technique, Austin.

Now, if you'll oblige me to change the font to sarcastic and ask you to do the same with the T&P Warehouse (just kidding!)

Hey Austin (and anyone else who enjoys maps), Google has new imagery of Fort Worth. I'd guess it's from September or October 2014, based on the various construction projects.

Edit: I should've checked the bottom of the screen where it says "imagery date: 10/2/2014"

I saw that yesterday, pretty nice. I'll get on making some tonight or soon.

There is another technique for image comparison that I've seen that might be useful here as it allows the user to control the comparison. Not sure if it could be used on this board, but definitely worth exploring.

Incredible the difference 2 1/2 blocks can make.

Here's a fun tool which shows a broader view, starting in 1984.  It's best for seeing larger trends like sprawl in north and south Fort Worth, and it's interesting to check out places allover the world.

...and I thought HistoricAerials was a colossal time sink!

I've wasted a colossal amount of time on that in the last hour, even if it doesn't show much detail.  If anything, it shows the massive proliferation of sprawl.  Some of the more interesting things I've watched:

The explosive growth north of the line from 820/183

The change in the southwest quadrant of Fort Worth with the CTP construction

And just because I'm a total dork, Joe Pool Lake.  It goes from field with a creek to construction to being filled up to being almost completely boxed in by Grand Prairie, Cedar Hill, and Mansfield.

GE imagery is new and shot in January I believe. I've posted a few gifs in individual project htreads. I've made a gallery of a few more here.

I have made a few more of these. Let me ask the forum, for ongoing construction projects, would you rather see them posted in their respective threads, or in this one?
