Good afternoon. First time poster. The old thread about the Forest Park rides really got me interested in the discussions in this forum. I grew up in the University Place neighborhood in the 70's and 80's and moved to Austin in the 90's.

Does anybody remember a pretty good sized water slide that used to sit near the Trinity River? It was located west of University Drive and east of Rogers Road kind of near where the old Colonial Cafeteria was located. Me and my brother would slide there all day long. Running up and down the stairs.

I cannot find any pictures or information about it on the web.

Anyone have any memories of this slide?

Howdy, Ted. I'm looking at the area you describe on HistoricAerials.com for 1979 but I see nothing that makes me think of a water slide. Then again, I'm not sure what a water slide should look like from above. You should have better luck than I in finding it, or at least vectoring where it had been.

I don't remember one near University, but I remember one north of 820 between 35 and Hemphill back in the '80s.  There was also a go cart track that was there into the '90s.  I think I can make out the slide in the 1979 photo on Historic Aerials.

Thanks for the link to the aerial website. Why aren't there aerials from the 80's? Maybe I just missed them.

I can't make out the water slide but you can clearly see the old paddleboats docked on the river. I am not sure how long the slide was there. Probably just for a year or two in the early 80's. In the mid 80's someone opened a skateboard shop at that location.

Thank you all for the replies.

They have none from the 80s so far. There surely must be some that they just haven't discovered yet. Keep an eye on their Facebook and Twitter pages; they are always making new finds of old aerials from all over.
