Fort Worth made Good Housekeepings list of Best Solo Trips. Its actually a pretty good list: The [42] Best Solo Travel Destinations in the United States for an Unforgettable Adventure
https://www.goodhous...-united-states/

Love the quote about Fort Worth. . .

;; the city is an architectural oasis;;

In a similar vein, I noticed this on display in the lobby of City Hall recently,

*cringe*

Please tell me you posted that to twitter and tagged FW Blue Zones.  No excuse for that sort of sloppiness.

And stop having the geographically clueless interns design your collateral.

There is a Buffalo Bandits thread on a forum I post to.  I mentioned the Fort Worth team and someone said,

Why are they called Panther City? I was wondering what city they played in.

This points to a concern that I think was raised when the team name was announced:  The rest of the country doesn't equate Panther City with Fort Worth, so they don't see PCLC as a Fort Worth entity.  This is the city's only current sport that's anything close to major league, and they flubbed the team name so badly that people don't even know it's a Fort Worth team.  They out-smarted themselves.

Agree with you.  They should find a way to retrofit Fort Worth into the name.  Not sure how would make room for all 4 words:  Fort Worth and Panther City.  Maybe its PCLC but then league standings include Fort Worth, not Panther City.

At first I thought was kind of catchy, then looked at league standings and realized our city isn't listed - says Panther City.

in perspective, if saw league listings for the following cities by nickname, what cities are they?

The Gotham ______s

The Queen City _____s.

The Magic City ______s.

The Tall City ______s.

Still not as weird as the PLL (the outdoor/field lacrosse league in summer) where teams do not have city/state affiliations at all.

There are several Queen Cities in the United States.

Buffalo has the nickname Nickel City after the old nickels that had a bison on the obverse side.  There is a bar on South Main called Nickel City and it is a Buffalo themed bar (although the Buffalo elements are apparent mostly if you're from Buffalo).  When I've gone there and talked to people most don't realize the name of the place is a nod to Buffalo.

Here's an analysis from Fort Worth Inc.  It's a good piece but leaves me wondering whether these companies distinguish our city in and of itself apart from the Metroplex.  Or are they simply attracted to Texas at large or the Metroplex in particular and see a lot of vacant land ready for development in Fort Worth?  If that's the main reason, they could just as easily have selected Frisco or Plano, which has a lot of vacant land around it.

This Wall Street Journal article has been getting a lot of traction this week: https://www.wsj.com/...ooming-160c5f47. Paints Fort Worth in a positive light.

Notably, LinkedIn featured this in their "Top Stories" sections yesterday. Which leads to strong engagement. I saw it at the top of my feed.

This link works for me: https://www.wsj.com/...fe5x4gxdbq5e0sb

If that doesn’t work a free account gives you limited articles per month. Overall if you read this, FTW sounds like the best thing since sliced bread.

To summarize the article:
- Fort Worth is becoming a boomtown is general sentiment
- highlights Goff’s Crescent and the A&M campus - specifically mentioning the partnership with F500 company Lockheed.
- $2.3B in projects are being built or in the pipe according to JLL. Mention that the city is in early days of what Austin did.
- Highlights our fastest growing city status and quotes Mayor Parker competing with Dallas
- Our office vacancy rate is low, giving developers a chance to build to needs of clients
- Mentions the library site plan

Seems to be momentum in media for Fort Worth lately. Heres an interview from Fox Business with a local real estate developer: https://www.foxbusin...o/6330212112112. Another FTW highlight seen on LinkedIn.

Good summary of the Fort Worth business news we’ve covered here. With more press comes more scrutiny. The journalist fact checking the Mayor’s crime comments are appropriate. I don’t want Fort Worth to say ‘come here because world class cities haven’t gotten worse’, I want to attract people for what we build, how we build, and the quality of life across many variables. Learning from world class cities is a smart and more sustainable mindset.

Also, the HQ mentions for Westlake, Irving, etc. let’s get some HQ moves here.

Yeah, that was cringeworthy when Parker compared Ft Worth to San Fran... even if it was true and it wasn't even true.

Leaning too hard on Yellowstone is a little cringeworthy to me.  It's just a little tenuous at best and another twist on Western heritage.  Does the average viewer of the show outside of Texas really know about the Taylor Sheridan connection to Fort Worth?  I know there's references to the city and one of the prequels has episodes set in Fort Worth, but is a fan in Virginia or Florida going to connect all of these dots?  All the spin offs aside, this is a show that's in its death throes with the lead character departing at the end of the current season.  It all reeks a little of the city promoting itself in NYC years ago by having NASCAR drivers make laps around Times Square.  That sort of promotion didn't age well.

Another highlight of the Bowie House (which just seems out of this world, need to pop in for a bite or drink), sharing in this thread since the article is from Vogue saying Fort Worth is having a moment. I’m really curious what someone’s impression is of Fort Worth if they have only read some of these recent national articles, but have yet to visit.

https://www.vogue.co...orth-first-look

I vaguely recognized Bella Hadid’s name. If you don’t know, she’s a model and has 61 million followers on instagram.

I saw this mentioned in the article: "Bowie (pronounced “Boo-wee”) House’s..."

I must have a northerner's mental block on pronunciation, but I say "Camp Boo-wee" when referring to the street but if I say the name of the hotel, for whatever reason every time I say "Bo-wee House" but I call the city in Texas "Boo-wee" and always with a slight hesitation where I second guess if I'm saying it correctly.  Same with Pal-u-steen, TX I think I say those names infrequently enough to where my brain takes a second to auto-correct itself.

Has there been a thread on Fort Worth pronunciations? Bowie is fairly known for Texans, but I’m not sure how Monticello is said. Cello or Cell-O?

I had a friend years back try to convince me Llano was pronounced in a Spanish way, EE-ahn-O. Na it’s just Lan-O.

I've heard both sets of these street pronunciations:

Hemp-hill and Hem-fill
Bell-nap and Belk-nap

And then there's my GPS that thinks the first syllable of Hulen is pronounced Hull.

The best part about that one is that it's phonetically when referring to the city, but with the Spanish pronunciation for Llano Estacado.

It is a spanish word and should be pronounced Ya-No but it has be anglicized to Lan-O.

It should be Monti-Chell-O, because it is an italian word but it has been anglicized to cell-o.  Just like people call San Felipe... San Phillip

With regard to Hemphill, it's easy to remember that "hemp" and "hill" are two separate words. We often pronounce the "ph" digraph as an "f" sound (namely in words of Greek origin), but since the name Hemphill is a compound word (Hemp/hill), the "ph" shouldn't be treated as a digraph.

I personally say Bell-nap for Belknap, treating the "k" as a silent letter as in the word "knight." On that note about "hull-en," I wonder if the pronunciation of Hulen is becoming a sort of shibboleth?

The lyrics of the song and the dialogue in the episode shows the writers actually did a fair amount of research - at least more than a few minutes of Googling. I figured the Star Telegram was” worth it” because it’s behind a paywall.

Huh.  You weren't kidding.

[Verse 1]
Got my best boots on, smile on my face
Can't believe we're from this place
Thirteenth biggest in the States
Can a town be your soulmate?
East Exchange Avenue
Steers in my rear-view
Gonna hit what USA Today calls
The second-best zoo

[Chorus]
'Cause Cowtown is a wow-town
With a walkable downtown
It's time to tap into your Fort Worth
Worth! Worth! Worth!

[Verse 2]
It's got no hipsters, like Austin
Or Wahlbergs, like Boston
Or tech bros, like Austin
Or Afflecks, like Boston
Now, some say Omaha Zoo is second best, but that's a lie
Because their red panda is always inside
It's nеver out on the tree, yeah, yеah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And the Trinity River's getting better
Parts are even swimmable
It's no longer called the mythological river of death
'Cause when the West begins, it's where your best begins
It's time to tap into your Fort Worth
Time to tap into your Fort Worth
The home of Hagman and Meester
Capshaw and Schieffer
Tap into your Fort Worth
One look and you'll love it too
No wonder Jesus went to TCU
It was early decision
See, I know, I'm worth it
Y'all know, you're worth it
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram knows they're worth it
That's why their site has a paywall

[Chorus]
'Cause Cowtown is a wow town
With a walkable downtown
It's time to tap into your Fort Worth
The home of Hagman and Meester
Capshaw and Schieffer
Of museums and parks and
Also Kelly Clarkson (Also Kelly Clarkson)
Tap into your Forth Worth
Worth, worth, worth (Yeehaw)
