#76341 Fort Worth Bike Sharing Program

Posted by mmiller2002 on 02 April 2013 - 11:23 AM

I saw people using a similar system in Paris.  People would just grab a bike, ride a few blocks (less effort than walking and faster) and park the bike.  It looked awfully convenient.

Isn't that called stealing a bike?  ;-)

It's called bike sharing because it's *not* like just "renting" a bike - the system is designed to encourage short trips rather than renting something for all day.

...and "sharing" sounds nicer ;)

It's not a particularly attractive style, though...too bad they can't give it away to someone who would move it.

You can't ban crazy people. You can't predict crazy. You can't legislate against crazy actions. You can take measures to secure places.

What about the trail bridge by the "panther island pavillion" stage? Doesn't that connect the trail to downtown, closer to downtown?

There's already plenty of empty retail spaces in the area. We don't need another pasture paved over, IMHO.

I remember that faux test strip and I thought that it looked fine. Really, we need to consider the recurring costs of maintenance of the real bricks. Nobody gets out there and looks closely at the roadway so much that a good concrete faux surface wouldn't be just fine.
