Channel 11 had an interesting story tonight at 10 PM about the tunnel system in Downtown Dallas.  The efforts to close it down to generate more activity on the street is starting to work, and many of the shops below grade are closing up.  Sections of the tunnel have been closed off, and this forces people back on the street every few blocks.  Below is a link to the story:

The crime above ground seems bad enough... I'd hate to be down in one of those empty tunnels and run into trouble. Yikes!

Isn't it a good place to go in case a tornado heads for downtown Dallas?

I occasionally have lunch with my sister in downtown Dallas.  The only real "bright spot" in the tunnel system is the food court in Renaissance Tower. It's very nice and seems to thrive. 1700 Pacific's food court is smaller and not nearly as busy.  But last time I went there it seemed to be doing okay.   The rest of the system is pretty much dead, which is a good thing for the continuing success of downtown Dallas.
