the rotc program was started in Fort Worth in 1916 - the two schools that were involved at the start was central and North Side . I have a lot of photos - but what I am trying to find out , was they had a summer or spring camp on Lake Worth . From what I have read it was by the old nine mile bridge , some called it camp Moore , after the school superintendent M H Moore . He was active in this program , so if anyone knows any info on the early days , please let me know . Thanks , Larry

Larry- A quick run through the Star-Telegram archives turned up a few articles, all of them limited to 1916, that indicate the Camp was probably on the west side of the Lake. The reference points are that the Camp was 4 miles from the end of the Rosen Heights streetcar line and near enough to a store that cadets could easily access it. The store in the area was probably Mr. Hodgkin's place where the old nine mile bridge road crossed what's now Jacksboro highway. The Camp might have bordered on Charbonneau's Percheron ranch. The articles only refer to the Central High cadets, though, with no mention of North Siders, and are all from April and May, 1916. Your photos may have some location clues. One of the stories noted that there were a lot of pictures of the camp in the 1916 Central High annual.

We just spent a year celebrating the centennial of Lake Worth, and I don't think Camp Moore got discussed much, if at all. Thanks for getting it back on the radar.  My guess is that the camp didn't last long in light of the city's development of the bathing beach and the increased traffic along the nine mile bridge road starting in 1917. Anyone know if the cadets were invited to drill at Camp Bowie?

Arrow S Park is still active and is now bisected by the 820 bridge on the north shore of the lake. Sadly, the city no longer retains the historic lease records for the lake so it's hard to trace the lineage of the individual parcels. I think the Swift Camp was developed in the 1920's. It'll be nice to confirm the Camp Moore location and the activities held there.
