This is wonderful for Mistletoe Heights neighbors crossing from the east bank to the west bank, and vice versa. But the east bank is still dysfunctional as a complete bicycle/pedestrian Trail from downtown to the Southwest Boulevard Bridge. I would like to take the entire completed Trail on the east bank sometimes but particularly during Mayfest when the park part of the Trail on the west bank is blocked.
I think one of the reasons for this bridge and hopefully a trail that connects it with the Tilley Bridge is to provide a bypass around Trinity Park during Mayfest.
As far as the south bank goes, it will never connect all the way from downtown to Benbrook due to the Colonial Country Club. However there is a viable route on the south bank. Starting from the new bridge, one can follow Colonial (or the paved sidewalk) to University. Cross University at the light and continue east on Colonial to Lynncrest. Right on Lynncrest, then a left on Hartwood which brings you to the north ends of Overton Park East & West which are good routes to the south that parallel Hulen. If you want to get back to the river from Hartwood, either turn right on Overton Park West, follow the sidewalk past the tennis courts, turn right after going through the "keyhole" in the wall at the edge of the park, and follow the path along Oak Park Lane to Oak Hill Circle. Turn left there, then left again on Stonegate Blvd., follow that past Hulen (where it becomes Clearfork Main Street) and then turn left to get on the trail.
Alternately you can follow Overton Park West South from Hartwood, past Bellaire and turn right after crossing the creek, and follow the path along the creek out to the river.
It's a lot of words but it's pretty simple to ride it.
