[Doohickie]

I was riding the trail along the West Fork toward Downtown and noticed a guy had stopped his bike and was looking across to Rockwood Golf Course.  I said hi and we talked a bit and he wondered what was going on with Rockwood Golf Course.  I looked across and could see, they've moved a pretty massive pile of dirt out there.  I told the guy maybe this forum would know. 

 

Well I just checked and didn't find anything when I searched on Rockwood, but a general Google search found this article in the Star-Telegram from September:

 

The historic Rockwood Golf Course is one step closer to getting a makeover with the approval Tuesday night by the City Council to fund improvements in part with $1.7 million in gas royalties.

The proposed remodeling of Rockwood could stabilize the program by taking the course from losing $200,000 a year to making about $300,000, Bunton said.

 

So it looks like they got all their ducks in a row and have started the renovation.

Yeah it's a pretty massive renovation they are doing there. Rather surprising given the state of golf nationwide as well as the budget for the City.

From what I've read, the city evaluated their golf courses from both an individual and collective standpoint and decided what to do with each one.  Z Boaz was converted to a park, for instance.  In Rockwood's case, the proximity to downtown (and tourist traffic) makes them think that the investment will pay off.
