"before long the
girders were rising and neighboring merchants were protesting. A seven-story building, they complained, would cast a shadow
over Fort Worth's entire downtown." Quote from http://www.fortworth...on.com/arch.asp

I bet they really would complain about the Burnett Plaza!!!! LOL

The Flatiron is about to get a neighbor, per the FWBP. We saw this in the DDRB agenda a few days ago but now the plans are public,

Right now that narrow little spot is just a wall and I think it has a pool behind it, I believe it's attached to the motel. I really like the way it looks, I usually like the juxipositon of old and new, and this also does so without overwhelming the Flatiron at all. My biggest concern is the ground level on Houston. The article says it will have 2 parking spaces, I really don't think having the entrance would be great right from there, perhaps there is a way to connect this buildings parking with the existing parking entrance to Park Central (see here) Interesting and creative use of space.

I like the infill development and agree that some other arrangement for a driveway could be found. Is the developer the owner of the hotel? It looks like the balconies on the north side will have to go to fit this duplex in.

When we were discussing this yesterday, I was thinking that this would have to go before the Landmarks Commission, as well.  However, this is a separate piece of property and may not be viewed as an addition to the Flatiron.  The Park Central Inn is owned by the same people who own the Flatiron Building.  This is all under one property ownership.

BTW, this looks to be under construction. They've got the sidwalk and some road blocked off.

They have a steel frame erected on this lot now.  Looks like they are making good progress.

I'm wondering about this insignia....George Cravens Flatiron 2000.  Year of restoration and owner initials?

Nitixope, that's how it appears to me.  If you look at your close-up, you can see that it is just clipped on, so that it doesn't destroy the original detailing behind it.

Maybe, maybe not.  They might have thought they could get away with it, and if the City asked them to remove it, that task would be very easily done.  It's so high up, most people wouldn't notice.  It's also very subtle.

I was walking back to where I back-in parked at City Hall this evening and peaked in the Flatiron reception hall. The walking tour when John was sick and ramjet and I attended Brians group, I recall he said Dr. Cravens sometimes opens up part of the space to the public. Well the fact that it was after 8pm probably didnt help, but I looked through the front door and I was surprised to see a bronze panther sleeping inside. I know there is one out back behind the building but didnt know they had one inside too.

Believe it or not, I didn't know that Dr. Cravens occasionally opened up the ground floor to the public.

He had mentioned this would occur during MSAF but perhaps that was in years past.
