I hope this has not been covered before.....Does anyone remember going to the Children's Museum, which was housed in that grand old Victorian-era house on Summit ? The house was one of many on the West side of Summit until the late 50's when they were torn down. (What a pity). I learned about the wonders of the world the many times I was there. The older ladies that supervised the place were very patient and would go out of their way to explain the complexities of the sciences to anyone that showed interest. The new museum near Will Rogers was great, but I still missed the old place.

Wow,"The new museum near Will Rogers" IS the old Children's Museum to me. Oh. the early 60's taxidemy!
I believe the Women's Club and Jr. League were invoved in the early formation of the Children's Museum --any Old Women or Senior Jr. Women comments would be great.

Yes, I remember the old Children's Museum on Summit. Went there several times. I also went to the newer one on Montgomery, especially after they put in the Noble Planetarium (I was a member of the Fort Worth Junior Astronomy Club). I'm wondering where the newest incarnation of the Museum of Science and History will be located, and when it will open.

They are building the newest incarnation of the FWMSH on the very same piece of property as the old one was (on Montgomery Street), only the new building will be much larger. The Omni Theater was not demolished, just renovated and is now open again while construction on the rest of the museum continues. I think the new museum should be ready and open within another year. It will have a brand-new planetarium, which again will be named in honor of Miss Charlie Mary Noble.
I have not checked the museum's web site, but I reckon it should have the projected re-opening date posted there.
When you were a member of the Junior Astronomy Club, did you see Sputnik from the museum's observation station on the roof?

Actually, I didn't see Sputnik at all. Did here the first broadcast of the beeps from outer space, though. And I did see the Explorer satellite make a pass over Fort Worth.

While researching some family history this evening I found an actual ticket to the Noble Planetarium from around 1970. Back then the museum was called the Fort Worth Children's Museum, and of course today it's the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
I have scanned an image of this ticket and posted it here:

You'll notice that there is no show title printed on this ticket. I'm guessing that it was a cost-cutting move, because planetarium shows vary by title and subject through the day and it's easier to use the same generic ticket for each show.
