Just curious.... what do you think of this for the Rosedale location in lieu of that blocky thing?
It's a proposal for a new building in Buffalo, NY. (If you're curious, this is what's currently on the site.)
Another part of the project:
And what's currently there now. It's interesting that they're keeping many of the street level facades. I bet that will make for some challenging construction.
I cannot stand this sort of arbitrarily busy design. This, IMO, would be an utter failure of design.
If you're talking about the massing, i do like the two stories, then step back, then up. The facade design is what is garbage.
I also am a little concerned about the GFF design of the new Lang apartment development. Its a little hard to tell how it will actually look and feel in its environment from the elevation drawings posted on here. I do think that brick as a facade material ages better than most commonly used materials in apartment development. It is very orderly, but risks looking too "heavy". Cant think of a better word.
The arguments against residential density are absurd. That neighborhood desperately needs more residential density to make it more of a sustainable ecosystem. The Magnolia corridor of the Near Southside has the potential to be a really great, walkable, energetic district if we can just get all the holes filled in with high density active uses and pedestrian friendly design. Its still quite sleepy on a Sunday-Tuesday evening when it is mostly patrons who live nearby.
