I spent the early part of this afternoon upgrading the forum. We have some new features and a new look. What do you think?

The site's new design looks great. The only thing I see that could be improved is the quoted material in replies. It's not as prominently set apart from the new material as it used to be, so it's harder to tell on first glance what part of the comment is new, and takes longer to scroll through a discussion.
Other than that, it looks really sharp and is easier to navigate. Thanks for all your work, John.

PS I partially take that back: The reply looks fine on this post right here. Can that format be retroactively applied to the old discussions?

I don't know about the quotes. That was one thing I noticed after I made the upgrade. I think there is a difference in the way they are coded.

I'm sold!

The old search left much to be desired.

I really like the layout.

I miss the Fort Worth Skyline photo [replaces IPBoard] logo. But I am sure that will come eventually.

All I have to do is provide a link to the skyline photo. The only problem is that I think the size of the logo has now changed.

In the old forum format, we had a lot of unnecessary quoting. That was accomplished by hitting the " Reply button at the bottom of each post. This button is still there, but it is not as dominant as it once was. When simply replying to a thread and not intentionally quoting someone, please click the larger and darker Add Reply button at the top and bottom of each page. If you don't want to click on that, you can use the Fast Reply section at the bottom of each forum page. All you have to do there is to click on the box and then start typing, then hit Post. How easy is that?

By the way, we are roughly at our 10th anniversary of the Fort Worth Forum. The web site is heading toward its 14th anniversary February 2011.

I am using IE 8. On the Transportation / Streetcar - City Council Andy's comment box is extremely vertically long... with no text. Its is like he might have embedded photo's from Flicker but they are not being displayed.

I learned in another forum that Flicker no longer allows deep linking to photos

360, I am still posting my photos to FLICKR. It still works but stinks big-time. I am looking for some place else to post my pics. (Tho I just paid for 2 more years of FLICKR PRO)

It has always been against YAHOO's policy to post their pictures someplace else but was easy to do. They just made it harder but it can still be done. (Thanks again UncaMikey for talking me down from that cliff)

Brian - I use Webshots. Pictures post easy from their site to the Forum. Only after you taught me how to do it.

Anyone else having this issue?

"I am using IE 8. On the Transportation / Streetcar - City Council Andy's comment box is extremely vertically long... with no text and no pictures." Also when clicking TRANSPORTATION on 'Last Comment' date/time the browser says ... "waiting for fortwortharchitecture.com to load". I will go away and get a cup of coffee and when I return.. it still waiting for the page to load. I have learned that IE 8 browser has locked up and I have to X- out and restart the browser. ALL OTHER Forum TOPICs open fast. Its only the TRANSPORTATION.

Some sort of erroneous code has crept into the thread "Streetcar Circulator Update" which cause IE8 to crash. The error was still there as of 2:35 p.m. CT when I last checked. Please either repair the fauit or close the thread.

I looked at the thread in IE8 and I did not have any problems loading the page. Is anyone else having trouble?

Always fun to see a great new look. Thanks for all your work, John.
Love that we can share to FB friends--just shared our Elerbee's info with a friend whose nephew works there.
Not terribly keen on the interests not being truncated under the member pix--because ours is embarrassingly long. Perhaps we should just edit.

Members of this forum are reverting back to the way things were in previous months. There have been way too many quotes made on this board. In many threads, the poster has quoted the previous post. This is totally unnecessary. I was hoping that with the new forum format, it would be harder to quote. What is happening is that the next person posting sees the small Reply button at the end of the last post and they think that is the reply button for the thread. It is not, but what that button does is put the previous posting in the next post as a quote. Please don't do this, unless you are planning to quote a post. Adding all of these quotes only clutters the forum and makes it take up more room on each screen. There is also no need to quote the previous post. They will view on your screen in the order they were posted.

In replying to threads, please use the larger dark button that states, "Add Reply" at the begining and ends of each page, or use the "Fast Reply" feature.

I hate to complain, but recently the thread quoting has become a nearly every post occurrence.

I also hate to complain, but I frankly cannot stand the new format. The older one was far easier on my eyes. After giving it a try for a few months, that opinion hasn't changed for me. I come here far less often and the primary reason is the format change.

I have not felt that there was any benefit to the new format. Many nuisances, though. I appreciate your hard work here.

I like it. Better search capability primarily. I don't want to start a new thread when somebody else has the same thread a year ago. The past setup did not have a good search. I also like the spell check, not that I neade it...

I am surely not saying the other style was not better for others. Surely is personal preferences. To be honest, I do so much posting that I do not readily remember much of the old style.

Unfortunately, the new format came with the upgrade. I'm sorry that it is not as pleasurable for some of you. I also did not want to start a new thread about not using quotes.
