It would be great if AA was able to support daily flights from DFW to HND:

http://www.star-tele...le38450268.html

It appears that only night ground operations for international flights are available at the close-in Tokyo airport, but there could be a demand for the convenience of arriving and departing from the central city location. AA currently offers two daily non-stops  (777) and JAL 4-day per week (787) service from DFW.

DFW officially has one less air carrier this afternoon:

It's kind off interesting it will take another 2 years to paint all the planes, so at least we will get to continue to see the old livery.

New European carrier and destination coming to DFW:

http://www.star-tele...le44213718.html

No mention of the type of equipment they intend to use. Direct service from here into the Lower Rhine/Ruhr Valley, one of the largest population and industrial centers on the planet, is an excellent opportunity for the airline, the airport, and the area.

Next? Milano, Munich, Brussels, Berlin, Reykjavik?

I've tried to make a list of all DFW intercontinental routes, carriers, and planes. I'm not sure if it's accurate and contradicts some things the article mentions (there's more than 5 European cities here, for example) but if anyone sees anything off let me know.

*Coming Soon

South America

  • Bogata - American - A319
  • Lima - America - B757
  • Buenos Aires - American - B788
  • Santiago - American - B777
  • Sao Paulo - American - B77W

Europe

  • Madrid - American - B777
  • Dusseldorf - Air Berlin - ???*
  • Amsterdam - KLM/Delta - A332
  • Frankfurt - American, Lufthansa - B763, ??
  • Paris - American - B777
  • London - American, British, Delta - B777, B777, B764

Asia/Mideast/Oceania

  • Dubai - Emrates - A388
  • Doha - Qatar - B77L
  • Sydney - Qantas -A388
  • Seoul - American, Delta/Korean - B777, B772
  • Tokyo - American, Japan - B777, B788*
  • Hong Kong - American - B77W
  • Beijing - American - B788
  • Shanghai - American - B788
  • Abu Dhabi - Etihad - 77W

For comparison, I looked at intercontinetal flights you can get from Houston but not DFW, some are Moscow, Istanbul, Lagos, and Munich. The article also mentions traffic to India and Africa, both places have no direct flights from DFW.

I saw some speculation that the Air Berlin flight would be an A330. It seems like I remember discussion not long ago about possible upcoming direct service to India from DFW. Maybe I just imagined that.

I don't know of any Delta service to anywhere but US hubs, ATL, CVG, LGA, etc. International;/trans-Atlantic service from a non-hub would not seem to be a sound proposition.

AA only flies to MXP from JFK and MIA

No DFW-DUB service

The Airport Board probably has an employee update the Wikipedia site

https://en.wikipedia...ational_Airport

as it stays pretty up-to-date. I only found one minor mistake in their destinations listing.

To add: Etihad to Abu Dhabi (I think on a 77W).

To take off: AA doesn't fly to Milan from DFW (we can't get to Italy non-stop).

To me the Central American and Mexican destinations are an important part of the destination structure at DFW. The many destinations American and a few other carriers offer from here contribute greatly to making DFW an important connection point for international to international passengers. I would like to see airport marketing work to attract more foreign carriers from those areas to serve DFW.

I saw blurb today or yesterday announcing that AA was going to set up flights to/from New Zealand...failed to take enough notice to write it down in the forum though.

Austin55, add those destinations to your list and it will appear even more impressive.

Oops, you're right youngalum. Out of curiosity I looked at current AA flights out of DFW and was surprised to see Anchorage AK as a seasonal destination. Used to be you had to connect in SEA, I suppose you need to still during the off-season. Merida, Yucatan starts up next March, but lose Edmonton Alberta.

Add Quito, Ecuador (UIO) to the above South American list starting in December.

I wonder if a Rio flight is on the horizon? Or Havana?

Quantas will fill in their weekly DFW-SYD schedule with a 7th flight beginning in April 2016:

A-380 service all week, still  "longest scheduled passenger flight in the world".

I did not realize that KLM has cancelled its seasonal service DFW-AMS. It makes sense that they would opt for a SLC, a Delta hub since they are in the same airline alliance. This would seem an opportunity for AA to seek the landing slot at Schiphol Airport for daily service from DFW, perhaps using a 757 jet like the AA service from PHL.

American is seeking permission to fly scheduled service between the US and Cuba:

"The Fort Worth-based carrier has operated charter service to Cuba since 1991 and plans to apply for the new commercial routes to originate out of its Miami hub, although it could seek service from its other hub airports." Can anyone here name another AA hub airport besides Miami?

There is little question that Miami is a natural point for AA to seek the permission to fly between the US and Cuba.

I can think of these: (US Airways) - Charlotte and Phoenix; and Chicago.

La Guardia, JFK, Reagan, LAX. May be missing another one.

I would think one of the New York airports or DFW would eventually make sense as a hub to connect to Cuba.

Possible schism in the AA-led One World Airline Alliance over the accusations of under-the-counter government subsidies of Gulf region airlines by governments. I wonder if the new mini-alliance being hinted at involves the three major Arab airlines or maybe a smaller US airline and some Asian/Indian airlines to get a route network going at each end of their long-haul flights:

Must have been pretty devastating for Branson to have to sell out his stake, but business is business. Another article I read a few days ago about this deal referred to "two valuable gates at Dallas Love Field" as part of the assets acquired by Alaska; I wonder if this could be a sign of where they will concentrate their efforts in the north Texas region?

Smack! Delta and MSP get the Tokyo Haneda route, but never mind, if DL fails to operate the new service AA and DFW will be able to pick it up. I wonder if there is a conscious effort afoot to decentralize foreign routes away from the major hub airports; DL in ATL and AA in DFW were both turned down for the new routes.

Can't help but notice St. Paul was ignored. Much like Dallas-Fort Worth, Minneapolis-St. Paul is a two anchor metro.

As far as DFW not getting the new Tokyo route, I'm a little surprised. I guess Toyota's US HQ isn't enough to justify a new route.

It looks like Emirates will not bring the A380 back to DFW, but will use a 777 year-round. Competition with the other Gulf carriers and resultant poor load factors are cited as reasons for the decision.

IMO the size of the planes that serve DFW is not as important as the number of destinations served and frequency of service to major cities.

Not that it shall ever happen - flying his airline out of DFW,  but R.L. Paschal alumnus and Southwest Airlines CEO, Gary C. Kelly, who has steadfastly given the "cold shoulder" to Fort Worth and hometown, is facing a growing revolt from among his troops.

Indulge me please, but this is sweet!

Meanwhile, at the Big Airport, technology and infrastructure is making flying there among the best experience in the industry.

Regardless of what's going on with Sourhwest labor, the customer experience at Love is equal to that at DFW and nobody tops Southwest in customer service. This area is very lucky when it comes to airports. Both are clean, newly renovated, extremely efficient.

DFW Airport is looking at increasing the subsidies it offers to airlines offering new international service.

http://www.star-tele...le98896832.html

Dublin, Munich, Helsinki, Berlin, Nagoya (Tokyo), Melbourne, Addis Ababa, Barcelona, Nairobi, Rome, Auckland, and J-Burg are mentioned as being on the airport's wish list. Those are all fine and well, but I would prefer to see Amsterdam, Delhi, Manila, Lagos, Istanbul, Manchester, Glasgow, Rhur Valley (Düsseldorf), Marseilles, and Milan, and Singapore added as well.

I wonder if what you wrote was true?

Distance Kuala Lampur to  DFW is 8,418 nautical miles flying over Nome, Alaska.

Distance Mumbai to DFW is 7,642 nautical miles flying over the Arctic Ocean.

The maximum distance a fully loaded Boeing 777-200ER can fly is 9,500 nautical miles.

Wrong on both accounts as far as flying a direct route. Presently, no airline fly to these cities from DFW. But airlines don't and can't always fly the direct route, they fly using designated airways in the sky and connect these long distance routes to their major hubs.

I'd say that the maximum range really isn't relevant, because that's a specific layout which may or may not even be flying today (more passengers = less range).  The reality is that there aren't any 9,000+ mile flights out there.  DFK-HKG is a 16.5 hour flight.  I just don't think there is a plane that could do DFW-Kuala Lumpur....maybe theoretically but not in real life with passengers, winds, etc. in play.

"Measured by distance, the San Francisco – Singapore service will be the longest scheduled 787 flight operated by any airline and the longest scheduled flight operated by any U.S. carrier, at 8,446 miles (13,593 km)."Jan 29, 2016

That's statute miles.

As one who flies the 737, I cannot imagine a worse aircraft for Trans Atlantic flights, both from a crew and a passenger perspective. I am hopeful that due to system limitations the FAA does not allow this to occur, and other countries follow suit.

Air India is launching a Delhi to "Dallas" route later this year. A lot to think about with this one. India is the 2nd biggest country and I've heard a lot about the middle class over there will become more prominent in coming decades. It also would be one of the longest flights in the world, as the distance over the north pole to DFW is around 8,000 miles.

Alaska Air purchases Virgin America. I haven't read much about how this might impact Alaska's presence at DFW or Virgin's at Love:

I don't have an article on the subject, but I read on Facebook tonight that Alaska Air will start service on Sunday from Love to Portland and Seattle out of the Virgin gates.

It looks like the future is going to be [a] flying international or business will be out of DFW; [b] Fort Worth will continue to lose domestic service as it becomes exclusively Dallas.

Fort Worth needs a domestic airport of its own.

I'm happy with DFW Airport, and would rather all airlines fly from it.

A new Fort Worth airport would not stop airlines from wanting to fly out of Dallas Love Field instead.
