Not related to City Place directly, but this line in the article gave me pause:

"Motioned unanimously to deny an application for signage installation at a Texas de Brazil restaurant, located at 101 Houston St. due to board members, staff and DRC stating they felt the signage was not what would best represent the business and its needs."

That sounds pretty over-reaching in my opinion. Isn't Texas de Brazil in a much better position to determine what best represents their needs? That's none of the board's business. If they don't want the sign, just say it.

The Aloft's construction elevator came down today. The website lists a February 1st opening.

Old post, but in rereading it, it strikes me that it might not be Texas de Brazil's business needs they're interested in.

I've heard a rumor that the (still not open) Aloft folks thought the subway tunnel remnant was a unique space and want to use it for something, perhaps a restaurant or bar? Would be a really amazing and unique space, how many venues are in old subway stations?! That's the type of things that can put FW on the map as being cool. Again, not sure any details on this so take it with a grain of salt.

You know what would be even cooler?  If the tunnel actually carried a subway.

I honestly thought they opened a couple months ago, already.

I'm way off...

The signs have been up for almost a year, but the interior work proceeded at a snail's pace.  Every time I walked by there, very little work was done, until the last couple of months.

I went back and looked at my old photographs.  I took pictures of the new signs the next weekend after they were installed.  The date on those photographs were August 20, 2017.  The signs were up right at one year before the hotel opened.  Also, I went inside yesterday afternoon, and the lobby/bar area is minimalist.  However, it does offer an urban/loft feel for the interior.

I don't have any knowledge of this specific project other than what I read on the forum. But I have to wonder if the shortage of construction labor is to blame, as discussed in a separate thread, http://www.fortworth...?showtopic=6663

I was told that due to the hotels intrusive construction (hotels require a lot of plumbing, plumbing = noise) the office tenants became unhappy and work on the hotel was only really able to be worked on at night.

The Aloft locations that I've visited have been pretty minimalist from the lobby to the rooms.

The Aloft in Euless that is currently under construction and is moving at an equally slow pace.  The exterior looks fairly complete, but their site lists it as opening in 2019.

It was announced a couple of years ago.  It's part of the Glade Parks development on the west side of 121 between Glade and Cheek Sparger.  The land for the development was cleared nearly 10 years ago and it's taken 5 years or so for it to come together.

I saw the review.  My cyclist friend, who has shown up at some of the forum meetings, stayed at a couple of Aloft hotels on a couple of his trips.  He recommended them to me the next time I went out of town.  Actually, he ranted and raved about how great they were.  So naturally, since they have been working on the downtown property, I was curious.  Just when I was about to leave on Saturday to check it out, he called me from the Bull and Bush and said he went for a beer and he wasn't enjoying the experience.  I told him that I was heading down to the Aloft to check out the hotel and the wxyz bar.  I invited him to meet me there, and he never showed.  I did check it out, but it wasn't as much fun without someone to visit with while I was there.  They did allow me to take photographs of the interior and they came out quite nice.

The Aloft's pool is underground below Taylor Street, between the library and tower. I'm not sure if the subway ever ran that far down, but it is in an interesting space.

If it is only one level below grade, then they placed it inside the corridor where the subway would run, if it were extended past the stop in the Tandy Center.  That old subway stop roughly aligned with First Street and opened into the ice rink/atrium.

City Place is exciting and two components of it becoming a one of a kind project within Downtown are currently in place now: office and hotel. The third component, a below grade (subway) and grade (streetcar) connection for a transit hub is all that remains from turning it into the pinnacle complex in Downtown.

Taylor Street is the best corridor for a street car line through Downtown having at one end the Tandy Subway tunnel and and at one end, the Jennings Street tunnel (Taylor-Texas-Jennings) that would lead to all points north, south, east and west.

For clarification, the Dallas-based brokerage company has offices in 12 markets, including Fort Worth, where these leasing brokers are located. The prior brokerage company's closest office is in Dallas.

I must be completely out of touch, I had no idea these restaurants are located there except Subway, how can you miss that.

The development includes include five restaurants (Hooters, Wild Salsa, Chop House Burger, Subway, and Jimmy Johns — though some are listed as "temporarily closed")

I wasn't aware that they had not reopened or they had temporarily closed again.  There was another restaurant that was supposed to open in the old Avanti space, but it didn't happen.  Since the pandemic hit, I have not spent a great deal of time Downtown (or any place else).  I do my walking tour once a month, and when I finish, I head home.

I don't think they have plans to reopen... I walked by them a couple of weeks back and Wild Salsa has very little furniture left in it.

I've walked past that closed Jimmy John's location about once a month since last summer.

I'm sure there will be a Jimmy John's in downtown again, even if current location doesn't reopen. The daytime population alone can easily support that concept.

Well yeah, no wonder restaurants have closed (temporarily or permanently) Downtown - just like every other office district and downtown in the US.

Offices have been at 20-50% occupancy (i.e. people in the office) and hotels have been largely empty.  People havent been eating out much.

Now that people are getting vaccinated, cases are down, and travel is starting to slowly return, i sure hope that most of them are able to reboot.

The extra kick in the shorts for restaurants is the labor shortage.

I would wager that those City Place restaurants don't put up sales numbers, even in normal times, as the ones on Main and Houston Streets. Their location is slightly infererior, so probably relying more on office tenants nearby to visit during lunch - and Aloft & Worthington guests.

Will be interesting to see how the sale goes and hear leaks about what kind of pricing they are looking for.

This really shows me how much of a backlog I have from photographs I have taken vs. photographs I have posted.  When the Aloft opened, I took pictures of the first floor interior, and I have never posted them, either on the forum, or on the main site.  Nitixope, thanks for taking the time to show the tour to the forum.

I had a great time.

So who owns the subway car?  For some reason I thought it was Marty Leonard but could have just made that up in my mind.

It was interesting in the basement pool area to think about some of the connections toward the library, wondering if we were under the street and also imagining what it was like before the renovation.

I heard one of the guests comment to their friend in the lobby that they didn't get any sleep, that it was too hot in the room.  Not sure if that was a personal problem or an HVAC problem.  I'll check online reviews to see if there's any comments about that.  The lobby was not as crisp as I would have expected but other areas like the ballroom were cool.  Overall, a very nice space.

I have been wondering what all was going on those buildings! Great shots, got to get down there soon!
