Here is a picture of the new bank going in on the first floor of the Tower Parking garage. I have taken a pic once before but could not find the thread. Must have been in a miscellaneous area.

I like this bank. They sure do not need to be big unless they are the corporate offices or such. This one looks pretty tidy. Reminds me of those little "Mini Dairy Queen's" etc... A decade or two ago I say myself buying a mini Dairy Queen or a mini something. (Guessing cheaper than a Maxi-Dairy Queen or whatever.)

For me, (Considering I eat out once a month or something) living downtown is at its best with dozens of banks in walking distance. I love that. I belong to 4 or so at any time. (Changes as interest rates change.) I do bank at Texas Capital Bank on the first floor of The Tower here. My fantasy. But it is human nature. I always wanted a bank in my building but now that I have one that isn't good enough. I want a bunny tube or a chute that takes my deposits down for me. Am I lazy or who? Even considered asking them if I could drop a basket from my balcony with a deposit. (You know, like the dog basket on Hitchcock's REAR WINDOW) cool.gif

Cap One is almost purely a consumer bank (at this point). They don't have a big presence in trust banking, commercial lending, wealth management, etc. They just don't need much space.

Can anyone answer this?

Is there a city, state or county law, rule or regulation that would prevent a person that has a "deeded" parking spot in this garage from using a key that would allow them to take the fire stairs up to the floor they park on and use that key to let themselves out of the fire stairwell?

Anyone? ...Anyone?

I've always loved living in the Tower but days like this do make it trying. Especially when the card swipe is on the other side... ;-(

Seems a small convenience store and some sort of restaurant are planned in the first floor of the garage on the 400 block.

The leasing packet for the penthouse offices shows some possible renovations for the garage with an updated facade, new ground level lobby and rooftop space. Not sure if there are serious plans to renovate of if it's just to show of to perspective lessee.

Are we seeing the start of less restrictions on signage and logos in downtown?

I don't think so.  I believe this signage falls within the boundaries of the Downtown Fort Worth Design Standards and Guidelines.  Crown of Building Signage is not allowed above 120 feet.  The building is not that tall, so it should be allowed.  Any signage and changes to the facade will be required to go before the DDRB.  However, just because it is shown in a marketing brochure, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be approved by the DDRB.

Oh.

Still, I'd hope we would be a bit more open with that, especially after allowing Frost to have their logo on top, which looks good.

Any new project is free to ask for a variance from any design standard or guideline.  That variance may or may not be approved.  From what I have seen lately, minor deviations from the standards and guidelines have been permitted, while major deviations have been denied.

I believe the last building crown sign request that was denied was on the W.T. Waggoner Building.  The Sandman Signature Hotel requested to install two signs, one at the top of the north side of the building, and another on the west side.  The signs would read "Sandman Signature" and would be the dark anodized metal reverse channel letters with halo illumination.  The DDRB turned these signs down for several reasons:

1.  They were above the 120 foot mark on the building.

2.  The building is historic and has several listings.

3.  The building never had signs on its crown.

Star-Telegram confirms that Dickies is taking the office space in the garage, leaving Near Southside.

I went to Ashim's Hibachi Grill with my wife for dinner Friday; it's one of the ground floor retail slots in the building on Taylor Street north of W4th.  It's visible in the picture above, in the lower right corner.  The place doesn't have much in the way of pretense or ambience but the food was good.  I thought it was pricey at ~$20 per person but we both got hibachi entrees; there were less expensive items on the menu.  It was pretty busy.  It seems like it may be a go-to place for people who live downtown.  I also noticed there was a sign at the door saying they were open until 4 am.

It reminded me of foreign food places we'd get a quick bite at when traveling for business in Washington, DC.  I've been to kabob places like that there; Ashim's had the same no-nonsense feel to it.

I'd never noticed it before, but we started a thing where we're trying to eat at restaurants going from A to Z to get out of our rut of going to the same ol' places.  Ashim's which begins with A, was the first place we went in our quest.

Maybe Qunice will be open by the time you get to the letter "Q."  I rode my bike past there the other night and they had retracted the construction fence around the patio presumably to do the rest of the buildout and I noticed some nicer interior finishes being installed inside the location but still in the works.  If that doesn't work out, maybe settle on QuikTrip on Henderson if that is done first!

I think I'd opt for QDOBA over QT.

The lighting will be cool to drive under during the evenings.
