Generationally generic. Nothing wrong with that, but if it's up to a vote these things are to be expected. Like how for years the logos for DFW and San Fran Airports looked so similar. It's not that they were designed by the same firm ( they were,) but that two groups of people, separated by half a continent, voted for the same basic designs in the same relative time period. I would have preferred # 4 for a more direct representation of Riverside, but truthfully, no harm, no foul. And # 2 could have represented area traffic patterns.

Speaking of which, I traveled last week for the first time in a while.  What's up with the new DFW Airport branding?  It's like they wanted the new logo/coloring to be as different from the old look as possible.  Not a fan of the orange.

How did this thread turn into a discussion about the new DFW logo?

This is how.

Uh,,,sorry about that,,,kinda got lost in the flow of conversation. WHEN it happens again ( I'm kinda non-linear.) any help to kick me back on track will be appreciated.

Without deviation from the norm progress is not possible. F. Zappa.

I love the look of this street. The bike lanes are actually separated really nicely, the whole thing feels really well designed, probably the best designed street in Fort Worth. It's a mess right now though, if you have time I recommenced and stop by to support the bossiness. They need it at the moment!

Have to put in a plug for Tributary Cafe. 👆 One of the best restaurants in the city, in my opinion.

Pretty accurate photo of the street situation. They stripped the asphalt off back in the spring. I have no idea why that was done so early in the process- they've spent the past 5 months or so messing around with sidewalks. It has to be terrible for the businesses there. I used to drive down Race every time I came into the neighborhood from the east. Not anymore. One positive thing is it has stopped the folks who used to travel down Race at 100 mph.

They really need some editors.

This is basically the same process the businesses on South Main went through.  Those that make it through to the end of construction should see a booming business.

I was in the area yesterday evening and drove down the street to see the progress and the street is beyond terrible. It is almost undrivable. There are several large holes and many more of significant size and you cannot traverse down the street without having to hit at least half of them. What a mess. I do hope some of those businesses are able to survive until it is completed.

I've been down there when it was dry.  It was dusty but navigable.  I think the rain really impacts the street right now.

I think S Main was much more extensive with new water lines, sewer lines, etc. (You know, things you might actually need to tear up a street for.) But I might be mistaken.

Excellent choice. This area has been a special place for me as far back as I can remember.

One of the more compelling view of the skyline via Belknap Street.

I've noticed the city street crews have been doing a lot of sidewalk laying, of late.  Not just on South Main.  Some of it along West Vickery Boulevard.

A portion of West Vickery was built 2 years ago and now they are finishing the rest to 183.  What I found interesting was the first part a few years ago had 3 redos on the driveway in front of the law office and by the apartments at westridge avenue.  I wonder if the contractor or the tax payers paid for 3 new concrete issues?  I suspect the contractor and people getting fired for their mistakes.

Race is about 99% open. It feels really fancy, I've said before but I think this should be the new standard of complete street infrastructure design in Fort Worth. Biking on the street is very comfortable.

In what is the latest thing that we hope will cause Race Street to Take Off, Stir Crazy Baked Goods has announced that they will be opening store #2 on Race Street, in the space formerly occupied by NY Pizza.

I just think we are waiting on small boutique shops and restaurants to start the process which is actually happening; albeit at a snails pace.

ok my google skills are failing me this morning but i KNOW there was a contest a few years back to come up with a street mural for the Race St. & N. Sylvania intersection...

I've not driven that area in awhile and according to google map aerials, nothing yet has been done.

whatever became of that project/idea?

The city is holding a contest for a new design of the Race/Sylvania intersection. Here's the entrants, here's the link to vote. Pretty fun idea!

More info buried in this presentation (page 27).  To be honest, I don't think I even knew this area was referred to as Six Points Urban Village.  I guess I always just called it Race Street or Carter / Riverside.

I worked for a time at that two-story building in the wedge north of Race and south of Belknap (3204 E Belknap) - one of many jobs I held while working my way through school (back when that was possible). Anyway, the area around that intersection was called 'Six Points' back then (80s?) - but was definitely not called 'Urban Village'.

I was trying to remember the name of that developer that had high hopes for changing Race St buying up as many properties as he could.  It's been almost 20-years since I thought about that one I'm sure it's here on the forum somewhere.

This never happened. Everything at the west end of the street closed and nothing replaced it: Fuzzy's, Dino's, NY Pizza.

Sad.

Between the Pandemic and the rebuilding of Race Street it was too much for a lot of those restaurants to handle.  Any momentum that area had went away.

I felt like the area was trying too hard and most of it felt too contrived.  It also didn't help that people would get there cars towed if they did not back into the angled street parking.  Silly petty things like that will definitely infuriate and alienate people from wanting to patronize an area and Race St. doesn't need any reasons to keep people away.

I think it's missing some ingrediants other areas have had. West 7th has the museums and WRMC, UNTHSC, proximity to downtown, and lots of wealthy nearby residents. Southside has the downtown proximity too, along with lots of population in Fairmount, plus all the hospitals as economic engines. Race has Oakhurst, but it's not really that big of a neighborhood. There's not really any big institutions/campuses nearby. Downtown isn't far, but the journey East is much more complicated than West, North or South.

I think Panaderías Don Goyo would do well over here on Race st. I saw on Accela they are opening another one I cant recall where but theres one on Seminary and one on Camp Bowie too. If youve never been, you need to check it out, just walk in, get a tray and grab what you want from the case, and then they will ring you up at the counter. I dont speak a lick of Spanish and I did fine spending a few bucks on some goodies. It makes a nice treat for friends, co-workers and neighbors.
