This is an annual event put on by the Flying Saucer Restaurant. It is a beer tasting. They lucked out and had 87 degree temps on Oct. 11. Was a nice (Read quiet) event.

.
50 years or less from now people will be looking at these pictures in the same way we look at old pictures now I'm sure.
That looks like a fun event they have going there. I had not heard about it although I have made several visits over the years to the Flying Saucer. That is a really neat place and in a historical building to boot.
So many times they level the old buildings and put in more "modern" ones. That is something I have great appreciation for

This is a huge Country Music event that has been really amazing the last two years I have been living downtown. I am not a big Country Music fan but I like the really good stuff. They had it last year and are this year again. (When I know most of the people performing they must be big.) Could be they planned this event with Country fans coming to Fort Worth already for Willie Nelson playing Tonight at Billy Bob's.
I was amazed at the Ranch Bash crowd last year. Thousands of Country music fans. It seemed like every one of them knew every word of every song. They sang along! I have never seen anything like it. I really enjoyed listening to the bands. And the crowd seemed like a bunch of good people. Families and friends. Behaved. Throwing their trash in trash cans. (Even though there where enough beer trucks to line up on end from coast to coast.) It is like nothing else by my experience. It is not free. Tickets are 7-17 bucks, I just looked on the Ranch's web site. For all day, big names, seems fair enough. It sure will be perfect weather for it. Here is a shot of the initial stage setup. Will post pics of the event. Find yourself in the crowd.

I took 150 pics from dawn to 10pm. I am sending them to the Ranch radio station for their amusement. They might could use the pics from above for next year's planning or promo or whatever. Here are a few pics. If you were there or are REALLY interested, I have also included a link to a 67 picture slide show. (This is the link I gave to the radio station to pick pictures they might like to download. The average Forum member might think I should have picked the 10 best.) Today's event is also Country. (old Country) Country Legend's Fest. Surprise, I am taking pics of that also...
Here is the slide show, if you are really interested...

They had the lights on tonight as they were decorating the tree. In my second shot you can see an Elf (I'll call him Elf #9) operating a lift as he is decorating the tree.

I am seeing new decorations all over Downtown every day. I am excited about the Parade of Lights the Friday after Thanksgiving. That is about the only parade I really love. Really spectacular.

I have never been in the Fox and Hound. Looks nice. I'd liked to have met you for an FPB (Festive Party Beverage)
It was lucky that you dragged your own 14 foot step ladder with you to get that shot.

One additional comment. For these foot races. If you have a dog/dogs or a baby in a buggy, get to the back of the race crowd. Having dogs and baby's up front is unsafe and borderline rude. Runners don't want to be dodging little dogs and the like. And if you like your dog/baby, you don't really want it stepped on, do you? I hear this from many runners and walkers. Be considerate. Not many people think they are going to win the race but most of the rest are trying to get their best times etc...
I have a few pictures for you attached. Before, during and after the event. And for those really interested in it, Like you were there etc., I have also include the link to my slide show with 100 pictures. (Not all award winners.)
Here are the few:
Before the event at 6:30 this morning. Our Porta Potty's are here!
And here comes the sun...
Early AM
Afternoon setting up
Crowds at the starting line on Houston Street
Off and running North on Houston
Waiting to move on the start
Running on Belknap
Runners coming back for fun and games
Crowds are back
And if you still haven't had enough, here are the hundred in a slide show.

No connection, I don't believe. Was confusing. I saw the fireworks, grabbed my big lens to take a few pictures, and then noticed there was no audience for the fireworks. Did not see a single car in the La Grave parking lot. (Location of the fireworks.) It was as though they were testing them or something. Pretty crazy.
Of course I don't know that some rich guy on the other side of the river didn't pay for the whole thing as a celebration of his daughter getting a B in Algebra or something. (My parents would have given me fireworks if I had made a C in Algebra. )

I forgot to check this web site. It is very useful for figuring out what is coming up. (Or in our case, "What went down.") The fireworks is on that calender for Dec. 6th.
I think this site is kind of new, but it is getting more and more useful each time I check it.
I believe it is all Fort Worth related.

The worst event of the year, in my opinion.
I started with good intentions like 20 years ago. I lot of little kids need a toy for Christmas and if you don't give them one, they won't get one. Now who could argue that that is not a just and noble premise? In concept it was great. I believe it has turned in to a tragic disaster of an event. I have been watching this event for at least 15 years. I used to stand by the highway with my American Flag to cheer them on. (I have a pic of me doing just that.)
What went wrong? Everything.
A. The event has gotten larger every year to include Fort Worth, Dallas and Grapevine. Huge. VERY HUGE. They estimate 100k riders will participate. That alone would not present a problem if people were waking their toy to their local charity. But put that many vehicles on the road, at once, in the Metroplex, drive 15mph, and you have a recipe for a very bad day. This event basically shuts down 3 cities for the day. It effectively closes Interstate 30 for hours. Unacceptable. If I was a smart man, I would calculate the environment consequences of shutting down our major arteries for an afternoon while adding in the additional pollution of 100,000 motorcycles. Motorcycles, though they frequently use less gas than cars, pollute a lot more. A lot more. They have basically been unregulated for their entire existence with a few recent exceptions. There is nothing green about motorcycles driven for more than a very short distance. (All vehicles pollute horribly for the few miles necessary to heat up their engines and catalytic converters.)
B. Noise pollution. It has become a crisis in this Country. More and more motorcycles have effectively scrapped any noise muffling. Many have noise amplifiers. I can frequently hear bad motorcycles for miles out of town. When I hike the mountains of Colorado I am so disappointed that no matter how far in the wilderness I go, I still hear loud, rude motorcycles. This is a problem that I am going to tackle, big time. It is completely unacceptable. Why should I be awoken at midnight or kept from enjoying my home any time of the day? This is primarily men that think they need to mark their territory. Please, just urinate on the fire hydrants and forget the loud pipes.
So even though it started with good intentions, and there are still thousands of people that participate with good intentions, the event should come to an end. It is not helping kids in the long run. It is making their air dirty. It is making their city loud. It is keeping mom and dad from getting to Target to get their last minute Christmas gifts.
Giving toys to needy kids is a great cause. But keep your dirty teddy bear at the house, write out a check for 50 bucks (what you would have spent for gas, booze and wear and tear) and send a check to these same great charities or any others. Or put it in your backpack and get on your quiet, clean bicycle and peddle it to your favorite charity or home.
And for those of you with kind hearts and quiet clean motorcycles that participated in this dirty event, Bless you. Really.
You are expecting pictures of this huge event like usual. Yes I took many of the thousands of motorcycles 400 feet below me. But I will not post them, as to encourage the event. I am posting two pictures that made my day. I would love to know how these signs came about. Because that's where my money is going this Christmas.
SOMEBODY has common sense...
I am grateful to whoever made these banners. (Who did?)

At race start I checked with the National Weather Service. 32° and 36 mph wind. OUCH! Just had to effect the outcome. But the largest crowd ever for the Cowtown. These people are a lot tougher than my wife and I. We had a couple of cousins running (That used our place as home base and as a babysitting camp) so my wife walked over to The Corner Bakery for a box of simple carbohydrates for our visitors. She came in saying she would never go outside again. I would go out on my balcony for one minutes stretches taking pics thinking I was going to freeze to the railing. My cousins were out there running in their shorts? I will keep you updated with their temperatures this next week...
The medical community tried to convince the public through the 90's that being cold doesn't give you a cold. Now they are back to the common sense grandma had saying, "When you get cold your resistance is lower." I have many examples of just that. True, when you are running your body temp is much higher than just walking or standing, but still, at some temperature/ wind level you are at risk, so it it would seem.
Surely a great event for Fort Worth. It brings only good people to our city. Unlike events I won't mention... (Motorcycle run )

It is a way touching crowd. like the only time I get kind of emotional. At 7am they have a "Survivors Breakfast" etc... Makes me realize my troubles are not so insurmountable. (Like how do I get get proper exposure on that bright sky and ground at the same time?)
Turns out I took 340 pictures and 9 movies. Posted 280 of the pics in a slide show. Mostly for the events planning purposes. If you were involved in the race or really interested here is the link. Warning: for enjoyment purposes the 280 pics should have been reduced to 50 or so. But I want the organizers and survivors etc... to have what I have. They are hi quality pics if you want to watch a few slides and bail. (Chronological, starting with setup the day before and ending with cleanup.)
